Geez, Bono has a lot of money for a guy who likes to tell our President that he needs to spend my tax dollars in Africa to "help" people. Hey, I also heard they did their record in Finland to dodge taxes.

They have zero income tax for "artists" in Ireland. A friend of my wife's lives in the next street to Bono on the southern edge of Dublin: he's sometimes seen cruising by in his flock of Ferraris. I find it highly unlikely that he needs to record in Finland for tax reasons. Maybe he likes Finlandia vodka and wants to be close to the source?

Perhaps, but is the band, not Bono, DBA in the UK not Ireland and is there some sort of sanction on them doing an album and releasing it there because of it?

Hi KingofPain: sorry, I'm not following you. What's DBA, please?

Cheers - C

Must be because rap and pop music are dominating the charts.

Hi Yoda: maybe. But I feel sure I've seen significantly higher estimates for Macca, Jagger and Elton John's fortunes in the past. So either these numbers are wrong or people's bank accounts have been shrinking in the recession. Either of which is quite likely.

Thanks for posting the full list, BTW. Have I gone blind or is Madonna missing from the list? And I recall a shocked Forum user posting about a year ago that Lady Gaga was already worth $85 million at that time, which nearly made my eyes pop out in surprise, but perhaps was within the realms of reality...? If so, she's strangely omitted from the list too.

One way and another, I suspect we should take these kind of guess-lists with a healthy pinch of salt...

Cheers - C

Ah-ha, I see; thank you.

Well then in that case, no; U2 are not in any sense based in the UK. They operate very much out of Dublin, Ireland and make plenty of noise about so doing. And why ever they choose to record wherever they do, with bank accounts like theirs it's hard to justify on the basis of punitive tax rates, which are a thing of the distant past in all our countries, particularly theirs.

Personally I've got nothing against Bono wanting to help poor hungry people. I do think he gets up himself over it though. In case there's anyone who hasn't heard it, my favourite ever heckle comes from a U2 gig.

Bono [lecturing the audience and clicking his fingers steadily every few seconds]: Do you realise, each time I click my fingers a child in Africa dies?
Heckler: Well then stop clicking your fingers!

Genius. 8)

Cheers - C

EDIT: when I say "my favourite heckle", obviously I'm not claiming to be that heckler. Though I'd give anything to have been the guy who came out with that one! :D

Roger Daltry on the list but not Pete Townsend. And I thought Paul Mc is a Billionaire now.

I'm pretty sure there's a woman behind why he isn't. No surprise.

As a fellow Single Coil P Bass player I like his tone. Always have. His 53 P bass is to die for. He's a good bassist, but I wouldn't call any of his lines "great". Though the fact that he plays them and sings is impressive. I think it's a combination of his songwriting, frontman ability for the most part that draw people to him. As far as "what's so great about him"? Nothing that can't be said about many other bassists, imo.

Or there's that... Which makes the fact that his sig bass has his actual signature on the 12th fret block inlay and the fact that it's commonly referred to as the "Sting-lay" really, really gross.
