I feel that way about a number of guitars. One trick ponies. Not many have the versatility of the Strat.

Nice way of putting it. One trick ponies.

I have an offer on the way. See how that goes.

Houtex, I'm trying to figure out what you mean by the term "reach". Is it that you can't get more tone when you play harder? The guitar can't handle heavy picking?

If that's the case, put a little more bow in the neck, and/or raise the action of the strings. That's a beautiful guitar.

Thanks.

The neck is fine, the action is fine, the Pup height is fine and the intonation is dead nuts. I can set up a guitar with no problem.

But what I mean by "Reach" is tonal expression.

It's a finely tuned machine thoroughly designed for a certain purpose, and it does it very well. However as I say, for a "Specific Purpose". It's not a well rounded guitar but for what it does, it's up there with mid to high end PRS's.

I feel the same way about an Ibanez I have. In my cover band days, I liked it for playing stuff like Elton John, Billy Joel, etc. But then I'd try to play SRV and it was just missing something.

I don't mind having a few 'one trick ponies' in my arsenal though. I used to keep one of these on the side for Drop D tuning songs, sounded great:

Only if it's considered to be "stupid/rare".

I own Several guitars Carvin, Prs, fender, and so on. I can honestly say a strat is the only one that sounds like a strat. but sometimes it doesn't have to be a fender just a good strat copy. I think its just the whole combination of elements in the design.

but my Plus Deluxe sounds Nothing like my idea of a proper strat, but it is one.

So Don't blame the guitar.... Its your ears fault

your perception of "TONE" will change many times over the years. One day you will love the sound of a certain guitar and amp, then the next day the mojo is just gone.
its just simply in your head.
have you ever had an amp set just perfect and then a day or to later you adjust the knobs wondering why it doesn't sound as good? at the same time you are thinking "EWWWW" someone could walk in and say "that sounds amazing!"

So I am basically saying your nuts and you need to accept it :P
Its just like food, sometimes you really want pancakes then a day later the thought of them makes you go Blahhh

Of course I'm nuts, I'm a musician.

This is an update.

Attention all tweakers, wanna be guitar techs and those who care about setting up their own rig.

When I pulled the back off exposing where the trem springs are located, I had only two and remembered that I removed one in order to get the trem floating since I didn't have enough claw screw adjustment to float the trem. A member here down in the amp section suggested to another poster about using these. (Sorry, I don't remember your handle.)

http://www.rawvintage.com/eng/item_springs.php

I also noticed over the last month or so, when I checked my tuning, I always "Sharp" hinting at either my neck was flattening out or my trem's spring force was overcoming the string force.

I changed the trem spings going from two to five, made all my adjustments and my tone is WAY better! Either tonight when the traffic slows down, or tomorrow, Ill head to the shop to pick up some D'Addarrio 11s and 12s and play with the trem adjustments.

What the heck? I LOVE the neck of this guitar, why not?
