Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

I think it's terrible that some insensitive people are torturing you. Hope your husband is feeling better. i bet he'd feel better if you got a new guitar and or bass.

I know I felt better when i got this last Christmas. Supposedly this wa an actual picture from the seller.

The other one I took Christmas morning!

Hi Jamguy!
Some are in denial, some will admit but are not ready to deal with it.
In my case, I came to realize that my collecting was causing me anguish.
Even my river rock collection. I would take walks and come home with
my pockets stuffed with beautiful round rocks. Then I would just stand
there and stare at them, my guitars- just as well...

In the end, something like 10 guitars went away. My kids have 4 or 5 which
I am no longer attached to.
I got into this blissful ZEN-simplicity thing and I come home to ONE killer White Strat
and TWO exquisite classical guitars.
GAS will not fill an existencial void, yet if you are not suffering a neurotic obsession over your stuff, why deprive yourself?
Look at BMW, he is a happy camper! :D

Awesome. I'd love to see that finish on a Precision with a b/w/b guard.

You people have NO conscience!!!
Conscience=The awareness of a moral or ethical aspect to one's conduct together with the urge to prefer right over wrong! haha!

Maybe it's age and wisdom, maybe it's figuring out what I really want/like in a guitar, or maybe it's just the fact that I have a pretty nice herd...but my GAS Wish List is much shorter than it used to be.

After playing some of the former "gotta-haves" and comparing them to the items already in my stable, many of those "gotta-haves" turned into "meh". They didn't do what I thought/wanted them to do, or they didn't do it any better than what I have.

The list includes a smaller, lighter, lower wattage tube amp (Fender Deluxe Reverb or Egnator Rebel 20 both look nice), a Fender Bass VI, a Strat XII (or Fender XII, but preferably a Strat XII) and an Epiphone Wildkat...and all of those items are very different from what I currently own. Maybe a flanger or an octave pedal would be nice.

But I'm not aching over any of these items like I used to do in the past. If I were never to get them, that would be ok...I can more than "make do" with what I have.

Obviously I'm not GAS-ing too hard, because I have the cash on hand to buy the most readily available of those axes (the Wildkat) right now,'and almost enough for one of the other two axes (if I can find one). I could drop the cash for either amp, too, without jeopardizing any bills or anything. The pedals could be mine in a couple of days, if I just ordered them...but I'm not desperate to scratch any of those itches right now.

Part of the reluctance is to placate Lady Armadillo.
Sample conversation:
"Do you really need another guitar?"
"Do you need any more shoes?"
"My shoes don't cost as much as your guitars."
Dang...she got me there.

Plus, I'm really, really content with the instruments I have right now. Due to the dearth of good guitar shops in casual "browsing distance" from my current abode, my guitars and (main) amp are generally  MUCH nicer/better quality than what I'm seeing on the walls locally--therefore, the GAS switch doesn't get triggered as often.

So I empathize with my fellow GAS sufferers, but I am happily suffering less than I used to.
