found a neat little 60s electric guitar in a pawn shop a few days ago, beat to pieces , terrible looking craftsmanship, abused, weathered, stuff missing, electronics barely worked.... just the kind of thing that gets my excited, you know? so just by looking it over i figured i could get it for 50 dollars or so.... there was no price on it, so i asked to plug it up and after strumming it a few times asked the price. 220 bucks! are you kidding me?
so then out of curiosity asked the manager guy ( i go in there quite a bit) how much they had in it, he said 130. wow. anyone have any experience with these and know why in the world they'd be worth way more than most junk japanese electrics? and i'm not over-exaggerating at all, this thing barely worked.... complete junk by any standards.

You got a beat to hell one. if you find one in decent shape they can fetch $150-$600, all depending on model. If you find one of these oddities, and it happens to be a Domino Californian, or one of the Teisco banjo-guitars, grab it. They're really cool, and are rarely under $500.

It's sad that I have knowledge about the less desirable guitars

it's not sad at all, i know a little bit about teisco , harmony, etc... but had never heard of zen-on..... very cool looking guitar even if it was beat up.... too bad they had too much in it for me to work with them. i love weird vintage junk models, but they have to be priced right for me to buy.

Most of the weird Japanese brands usually have some association with Teisco. But they're not junk models, they're just entry level instruments. They were the Squiers of their day.

Some of those thin, heavy hardwood Japanese instruments can have a cool tone. The tuners "they" use are always hard to turn, so you have to lube.

I heard a lot of them are compatible with Klusons, so that would probably be your best bet. But yea, those are a $@!&* to turn.
