I recently switched my strings from .011s to .013s. The guitar didn't need any adjusting with .011s, but i'm worried it will now. Does it? And should I do it myself or go to a shop? Thanks for any info.

In any case you'll need a truss rod adjustment and maybe nut slot need file work to enlarge

You'll definitely need it adjusted yes.....The fact that your asking that question leads me to believe a luthier would be your best best if you have the spare cash... It's re setting the saddles for hight and length/ intonation as well as truss rod, it's not simple.

Eventually you'll have to learn anyway. Use You Tube.

How'd things turn out Bros? All of the suggestions made sense. Do you like the heavier gauge? Welcome to the Forum voodoochile98.

What prevents me to go bigger than 11s is the wound G, how do you guys deal with that?

Its probably mostly just a difference in playing style. That is, I'm guessing most people who use '13s don't do a lot of bendy lead work.

turns out the person who had my guitar before me tightened the truss rod as far as it could go without breaking it, and it won't take anything bigger than 11s... but its all good i put 13s on my other guitars and i LOVE them... the wound G is what I enjoy about them.

I upgraded my tele with an AmStd bridge and went up from 9's to 10's. It took me a while to get the action, intonation and neck relief just right. And I went up only one gauge, you're going up two gauges, I'd definitely file that nut even if it seems "ok", the extra tension from the higher gauge means that the truss rod must be tightened unless you don't mind the extra neck relief.

Check this out and see if you're up to the task: http://www.fender.com/support/articles/ ... etup-guide

If you're up to it a slight twist on the truss rod will do the trick, adjust and observe.
If you want, replace the wound 3d with a plain 0.019.
