Alright, here is what I know so far, mind you its limited. It is a fender solid state super reverb amp, and it works quite well for an old amp. Ive not had anyone take a look at it yet, mainly due to not knowing where to take it. Now for the parts im unclear off, I believe its from the late 60's, but i cant be for sure as i havent checked the serial numbers yet.

If anyone knows about these amps and could provide me abit more info on it, id be forever grateful. This thing has been a headache to find out about, I cant find any on ebay, or for sell anywhere. Hell I havent even found a picture of one. If futher pictures are needed to help ID this old amp email me jbe5962345@gmail.

Thanks for reading folks, I look forward to any and all info you might have

Hi there,

found this on google. http://www.arahe.net/amp8.html

Scroll to the bottom and there's a whole range of these amps. All I can say is "what were Fender thinking?!?"

Cheers.

Ha! The days when we thought that solid state would be the greatest thing since sliced bread.

The Vintage Guitar 2009 price guide puts the amp at $375-$400. It was manufactured between 1967-1970 and is a 50 watt amp with 4x10" speakers. Not stated is the weight, how heavy is it?

The thing is heavy as all hell, id say 130-150 pounds, no more than 180 though.

Interesting, I've never seen one of those before. Try posting here, good guys, usually good answers.

Thats the whole problem, to big for my small space. Its a shame though I genuinely love this amp, and think it sounds wonderful for its age.

It was part of Fenders Solid State line. They did the Twin too and a couple others and they also had a Zodiac series. It looks really clean. The thing is, if you like it, it makes no difference what anyone thinks. I've seen them pretty beat going for $200. Something that clean, I think $350-$400 would be fair if you liked it. It's hard to find info on them because they weren't very popular and didn't last very long on the market. I for one didn't like them much, but hey, that's me. If it sounds great with your PRS, put it through its paces and if it doesn't overheat or have any other issues, I'd say go for it. It's part of Fender weird history and would be a cool conversation piece.

They also had a solid state 100 watt Bassman. It is the only piggy back in the series for some reason. It sounded a lot like the Peavey stuff that would come shortly afterwards. The 1967 Fender Solid State line models introduced in 1967 were Super Reverb, Twin Reverb, Pro Reverb, Vibrolux Reverb, Bassman and Pro Reverb. Yeah, the latest and greatest folks!

ABOVE PRINT AD FROM 1967.
BELOW FENDER DEALER CATALOG PAGES 36 & 37 FROM 1968.
(Never understood any logic behind this 2 page airport scenario. It has haunted me for 45 years as I wonder, "What were they thinking? Don't get left behind? Don't use turbo props if you're a jet-setter? Don't travel with mismatched luggage?" NOTE: Technically these were really page 38 and 39 of the catalog but for some reason page 3 of the catalog is labeled page 1 and they started the page count from there. Dang another enigma!)

Unfortunately, nobody wanted them. Even as a kid I knew the solid state Vibrolux Reverb couldn't hold a candle to my 65 Blackface. I got to try one at Music City in NE Philly. It sounded cold and brittle even with my hollowed 63 Supro Martinique. I always brought my guitar on the bus when I tried stuff out. Even back then we were scared tube amps would disappear. Glad we were wrong. But, some people still embraced the solid state stuff. Again, it's whatever works for you that's important.
