What bands can you name that still can produce music, "Not just one or two track's" that the general public accept to be chart topping 20 years after their hey day...... I can only think of one.......

Red Hot Chilli peppers!!!

Note: still produce music that makes it.....

Ps....The charts mean nothing to me i just have to take my hat off to the Chilli's, They still can come out with the same energy as the 80's and 90's..... I saw Slash last week and his new stuff ain't a pinch on old G&R...... Don't get me wrong Slash was rockin silly and it was great to see but he just ain't producing the same energy that Gunners were....

Its like 10 years after the partying drinking Vibe leaves there lives they just cant rock n roll the same....
Like can AC/DC...No
Can Keef....No
Can EC....No
Can Sublime....No
Can Slash....No
Can Metallica...no
Can Sultana...No
The list goes on.....
They can all draw on the old vibe they had and they can all play fantastic music.... But it seems Flea, Chad and Anthony and Now Josh can still pull out the Party vibe 20 years on produce gold albums "sober" when no one else can.....
What are your thoughts???

YES! * RHCP! *

The have also had some great marketing for the new album as well:

*A listening party where they streamed the entire album for free online just before it was released.

*A performance of the entire new album played live and then played in movie theaters worldwide.

*An "app" for phones or iPads that streams their entire collection for free (music and videos) and notified users of news, events, etc.

* Recording live shows from the tour and making them available online for purchased download. (I downloaded the tracks from the concert I went to and it was awesome to listen back and listen closely to the entire concert)

*Releasing 18 bonus tracks (from the new album sessions) that did not make the cut. These are being released 2 tracks per month and I'm already salivating for the next 2 tracks which will be released on September 11, 2012.

Here are the first two bonus tracks:

Long Progression: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XBtSHoflrVY

Foo Fighters immediately spring to mind. They've been going nearly 20 years now and they're still definitely one of the biggest bands in the world.

Radiohead are another one, though they're making totally different music to what they were doing twenty years ago.

n March 17, 1973, a band in musical transition named Pink Floyd hit the Top 200 chart with the release of its new album, "Dark Side of the Moon." It entered the chart at No. 95, the top debut that week. And then a funny thing happened: It never left. Or almost never, anyway.

More than 14 years later -- 736 weeks to be precise -- in July 1988, it finally fell off The Billboard 200. Add in a later run on that chart and another 759 weeks on the Top Pop Catalog Albums chart, and Pink Floyd, with this issue, reaches the staggering plane of 1,500 weeks on the charts.

It's difficult to contextualize just how singularly dominant a chart -- and cultural -- force the album has been. The runner-up for time served on The Billboard 200, Bob Marley and the Wailers' "Legend," is several years behind, and Floyd's lead in total chart weeks is greater Marley's by an almost 2-1 margin.

Label sources say "Dark Side" has sold roughly 40 million copies worldwide and still routinely moves 8,000-9,000 copies on a slow week. In fact, the album still often outpaces the low end of The Billboard 200, and every song on the more than 30-year-old record still gets radio play, with some among the most-played songs at classic rock stations monitored by Nielsen Broadcast Data Systems.

I love Pink floyd.....But the nature of the thread was "still producing' music widely being embraced.... :?

And Foo fighters or Radiohead in the same breath as RHCP or any of the bands that have made a huge dent in history.....Sorry i cant swallow it..... :|

Swallow what you like, but there's no denying that they make music which is, as you put it "widely embraced". And as far as making a dent in history is concerned, I can't help but think that if twenty odd years in a band is topping album charts and selling out two nights at Milton Keynes bowl (130000 people) within hours, then they probably won't just suddenly be forgotten about over night. You may not like them, but a whole lot of people do.

Sublime doesn't even exist anymore because of copyright issues, but they also don't exist because Bradley Nowell is dead. They're known as Sublime With Rome now.

OZRV...I think you screwed the pooch on listing EC as faving no fire...been to one of his concerts in the past five years? I have been to two and just check out his playing on the tour with Stevie Winwood....smoking!

Would also agree with Skynyrd! They still rock out, and how can anyone leave out The Allman Brothers? Tsk, Tsk, Tsk.

RHCP will never hold a candle to Skynyrd, Clapton and Aerosmith.

All a matter of opinion, which by the way, I respect.

I don't know exactly why but honestly, I simply can't stand Aerosmith. They are just one of a few bands that hits me the wrong way, every time.

On the other hand I love RHCP in a very special way, one I'm sure you can't share, but try to understand that music is differnet things to different people. There are no absolutes, because we don't each experience music in exactly the same way.
