Well, all the guitars I've won from the Battle of the Blues have come in as of last weekend! I've been so busy lately I haven't really had time for new guitar day posts, so I figured I'd just put them together in one massive post!

First up is the Gibson Songwriter Deluxe Studio acoustic guitar. It came before the competition and I took it with me to L.A. for the acoustic song I had to play. When it first came it had some fret/fretboard issues (which is kind of surprising considering how much it would have cost if I hadn't won it), but my tech took care of it so that it plays great now. It's all solid wood, so it sounds incredible. I really needed a good acoustic/electric guitar too. If I sold the Gibson (which I never will), I could buy about 10 of the Ibanez acoustic I had previous to this. (I still like that Ibanez though, so I'm hanging on to it.)

It's first photo...

And in L.A....

For the Gibson electric guitar I won, I picked a Les Paul Standard. At first I thought I only could pick a Gold Top, which would have been ok. But later they gave me the option of Heritage Cherry Sunburst, which was my dream guitar when I was about 15. I would literally cut pictures of Heritage Cherry LP Standards out of magazines and my room was plastered in them! I picked the 2012 Standard instead of the Traditional because I really can't stand guitars that feel like boat anchors. For me, it needs to be weight relieved. I was a little apprehensive about the compound radius fretboard (I really like a 12" radius), but for some reason mine appears to be a straight 12" fretboard. Which is great! I checked it with a radius gauge just to be sure. I'm also really liking the way it feels and sounds. I honestly wasn't super excited about it at first (being a die hard Strat fanatic), but I have to admit that the Les Paul has already been used on nearly every gig I've had since I've gotten it, right alongside my Strat. I'm trying to resist turning to the darkside of the force, but I'm liking it... a lot...

The pictures don't begin to do it justice. It's a beautiful guitar in person.

The fancy controls (which give you some pretty cool tonal options)...

And finally, the last one just came in Friday. It's the Epiphone Sheraton II that I won in the District Finals. I set it up as best I could, but I'm getting some fret buzz in places where there are probably some high frets. Nothing major though, and overall it feels pretty good. The tone gets a little muddy with distortion/heavier overdrive, but it has a great clean tone. I've never had a semi hollowbody or hollowbody guitar before, so it's going to be fun to experiment with. I'm also really happy I picked the natural finish, it looks awesome! Plus it has a couple of cool skunk stripes in the back of the maple neck.

That's some nice gear. It's always good to have options. The compound radius fretboard on my Am Dlx is my favorite. It's too bad Gibson didn't build yours right, I'll bet you would have liked it. It doesn't surprise me that they messed up, with all the stories I've been reading about their lack of QC lately. Enjoy the new trophies and good luck.

WOW!, you made out like a bandit, congrats. Don't worry about the dark side, it's all about making great music, and those have made some great music from time to time.

Make 'em sing and all is good.

Enjoy.

Nice TGS!

I remember you were borderline on getting the Sheraton...you think the buzz is fix-able without too much work?
