I know next to nothing about motorcycles, but I really like the look of the second one.

All boils down to:
Red, White & Blue
or
Lime Green

Buy American. It's the right thing to do. After all, every car wants to be a Mustang, every bike wants to be a Harley 8)

(oooh, I'm gonna have to get my rain gear out of the closet for that one)

A Mustang and a Harley.

That's my style! Classics all the way.

The advise is the same as for getting a guitar. What are you going to use it for? Try as many as you can; and you will know the right one when you find it.

Of the two, I'd pick the Harley but that is because I like the more laid back riding position and I tend to go for longer rides on two lane roads. If you intend to spend most of you time riding in a more urban environment the Triumph might be a better fit. You can easily ride either one on the road or in town, but the Triumph could be a little low in power when you need to get on it and get away from a distracted cager and the Harley will require a little more skill to navigate at slower speeds.

Speaking of skill, I think every motorcycle rider should take the motorcycle safety course http://online2.msf-usa.org/msf/Default.aspx. This is the best money I have ever spent in regards to my motorcycling hobby. I had been riding for 10 years before I took the course and I learned more in a weekend than I had in the previous 10 years. Secondly, I recommend you buy the "Ride like a Pro" DVD https://www.ridelikeapro.com/. I watch this every year when I get to itch to ride but it is still too cold and then first thing when I get the bike out I practice the skills in the video.

Be safe and have enjoy.

Cool, care to tell us more?

I didn't mean to sound condescending, but the safety course was so helpful to me that I just can't resist recommending it.

I also cant' resist showing off my motorcycle. I hope you don't mind.

If that be the case... Forget these antiquated slow things and get yourself a Ducati Diavel....there comfy, ten times safer, handle like sports bikes and the coolest thing on the road.....best motorcycle I have ever owned and I've owned many...

Same here... I have been riding motorcycles for years and years (been a Honda rider for as long as I can remember).

In today's world there are two types of motorcycles:
  • Sport Bikes/Crotch Rockets
  • Cruisers
(Honda Goldwing (a two wheeled RV) is in a classification all its own!) :P

I have ridden a few sport bikes and don't care for them. You get the impression that the bike almost demands that you to twist the throttle full out, and go from 0 to 120mph in the blink of an eye. You're all hunched over the gas tank, leaning forward, and your feet are positioned where the passengers pegs would be on a cruiser. Um, thanks, but no thanks...

Cruisers are more laid back and the polar opposite of crotch rockets. Cruisers can quickly get on out there too, like a sport bike, but they are more comfortable. Your feet are a little bit out in front of you and you're kicked back, relaxed, almost like you're sitting in a Laz-E-Boy recliner with your feet up. Cruisers are awesome and way more comfortable than crotch rockets.

I own a 2007 Honda Shadow Aero 750 (mid sized cruiser), and it has 23,200 miles on it, all original miles by me. Eventually I want to trade up into a bigger 1300cc, 1500cc type of large cruiser with touring accessories (windshield, saddlebags, floorboards, etc..)

Here's my baby:

that Norton linked to was one of the best looking bikes ive ever seen. im not huge into bikes, but i know i've never ever been drawn towards a harley. that norton is my style. im not into big chrome covered show off harleys, and im not into plastic fantastic kawasaki ninjas and the like. that norton though is perfect. my mate used to have a Buell, it was ridiculous, in a good way.

I would definitely suggest taking a Rider Safety Course! The worst kind of fool is the one that thinks he knows it all. Same thing with boaters.

I raced Motocross, TT, Flat Track and Scrambles from the mid 60s to the mid 70s in the Los Angeles area. And not too long ago I thought I would give Dual Sport a try and I really didn't like the bike. It was too heavy for off road and was squirly on the road.

Your Bikes pale in comparison to the Bad A** monster you are now looking at..thats right 49cc of unleashed power..earth shattering speeds and general all around coolness..
I sadly recently sold it so I could buy my dream strat and Its kind of nice not getting bugs in my teeth while playing the strat!
