earlier this afternoon i taped off the headstock on my black/yellow partscaster - going to paint it a nice gloss black to match the body and then try to find some affordable custom decals.... haven't really made a final decision on what they should say yet....
any tips/ tricks on painting/ applying decals?
what to look for/ avoid?
or anyone care to help me come up with some ridiculous name to be forever plastered on this guitar? i'm currently thinking fender format , something that starts with an F so i can have that fender look from a distance, and then instead of stratocaster, maybe Trashcaster or something.... i dunno. it'll be fun, whatever happens.
links to reputable decal sites? Image

After doing a quick search I found a couple of people who can do custom decals.

This guy sounds like he knows what he's doing, maybe send him an email.

I don't think you would get a Fender looking decal here, but some of them might be cool anyways.

Good luck!

Hi lameandcliche: I think you may find trying to mask the tuner capstans leads to less than perfect results. Why not just remove them while painting the headstock and then put them back on after?

Good luck - C

I got a rather interesting decal not to long ago  you could always have one of those made
and ceri is correct it is much easier to pull them out, you will be glad you did when it comes time to wet sand and polish.

Ceri, i tried but the screws seemed to be stuck, and i didn't want to try too hard and mess anything up, besides- this guitar has always been modded to purposely look a little sloppy.
every other guitar i've done anything to i've tried very hard to make things look great, but this one has a look i feel the need to stick with... it doesn't look bad at all though, the way i did it.... sanding will be an issue when i get the decals and start putting the final coat of whatever on, bt we're not there yet... :)
