I am an engineer by trade and work with blueprints all the time. I also have a great appreciation for Leo Fender as an inventor and innovator and have spent some time researching his patents. The result is this 24"X36" poster now hanging behind my desk. All of the images were found searching the US Patent Office website. I took the original black and white paste-up version to my local graphics print shop and had them convert it to blueline and add the blue background to give it a real blueprint feel.

This by no means represents all of Leo's patents, he has a ton of them (I'm guessing he made his patent attorneys very happy men!). The patent dates range from Oct 1951, "Combination Bridge and Pickup Assembly for Stringed Instruments" in the upper right hand corner, to Sep 1983, the headstock designs near the bottom right.

I think you could market that thing. Would you have any trouble using the original drawings? I mean, they are a matter of public record, right?

Nice job, for sure.

Thanks for the kind replies, I am definitely happy with the way it turned out. I am planning on giving a couple away as gifts to some fellow Fender-heads, but no thought about marketing them. Fender has made a couple posters using similar ideas available for sale through the on-line store, and I really don't want to get crossways with them. As to the content, yeah, its all public domain stuff straight from the patent office.
