Sorry to derail. Are there any pros out there anymore who still leave their ashtrays on their guitars? (not basses) It seems more rare with guitarists for obvious reasons. I'd think I could probably get away with a bridge ashtray on a Strat, but I'm not much of a guitarists. Really only good for holding down the middle or simple licks. Nothing fancy on either fronts.

Doubtful.

While the ash tray exudes a certain vibe when the instrument is displayed in a case, for practical play they're more of a hindrance than anything else.

This is the Strat I got this past Christmas, it's a MIM special run. I haven't seen any in any sites for months. It supposedly has a high mass bridge, being that I couldn't find one online, i can't get the specs. Hopefully a bridge cover will work, if not, I'm out the cost of returning it.

The cover will likely not fit that bridge.

That's what I figured. As a bassist I have one bass (the 51RI) where I keep both on because I run flats and sometimes use a mute on the strings. On my 62RI P I only use the ashtray over the pick up to give me access back by the bridge for picking when I do pick.

I'd assume guitarists, given the fact that they generally play all over wouldn't keep them. I suppose there's gotta be footage of guys doing it though. Even from the old days.

I had one of the first '72 Custom Telecasters, it had the big bridge/pickup cover. I took it off right away. It was really in the way. For my basses, the v=covers don't interfere for more at all.

King! What did i do to you to merit your comment? You want to get me shot?

Are the new bridges bigger? Then definitely. If not there are ways around it.

You're not hearing me......

"The Strat ash tray fits the vintage-spec trem and hardtail bridges with 2-7/32" string spacing."

It fits these bridges only.

Interesting. I notice on the Roadworn guitars the bridges are listed as "Vintage Style Synchronized Tremolo". (As opposed to on the bass models where they get the AVS "American Vintage Four Saddle Bass Bridge") On the AVS guitars the bridges are listed as "American Vintage Synchronized Tremolo". Is there any real difference spec wise?

Why would anyone want to have one on there when playing?

Need to have fleshy part of my palm able to contact with the bridge behind the saddles.

I don't like those covers, they look kinda dorky  the only person who was a pro that i can think of who kept the cover on was Albert Collins. You can't palm mute the strings if you have that on
