did anybody notice that the american vintage strat shown when you get on the fender site shows a strat with an ashtray bridge cover?

my old 60's strat had one, and i still like the looks of this

will fender make these available, and will they fit my 09 mim strat?
if so, my new strat would finally look like the old one 8)

I think they only fit the vintage trems, although the MIM deluxe Players Strats had the same spacing. My MIM build was based on one. This probably doesn't help you though.
They are pretty cool 8)

Why shouldn't you have covers? My basses came without them, easy to find at a number of places.

There's a shot of my 51RI P with them on from a show. While I can see how some may not like them given where on the guitar/bass they like to play. If they won't interfere with what you need to do I say go for it. They look AWESOME, imo.

The Strat ash tray fits the vintage-spec trem and hardtail bridges with 2-7/32" string spacing.

The Tele ash tray fits the original-spec bridge but not the AmStd type.

Bridge covers for the basses can be retro-fitted to any 4-string except for the Jazz Basses equipped with the Baddass (the bridge is too long).

slightly off topic - do they make a tele bridge more 'twangy' seen as it covers the pickup ?

Interesting. If one was to drop a BAIII in a string through body early style Precision (51RI, Sting, CS 55RI, CS 51RI) would the cover still fit? I haven't ever tried it on mine as the two saddle bridge doesn't bother me. However, another bassist who I was at a gig with mentioned he thought about getting a Sting and loved the way my 51RI looked with the covers. However, he said the two saddle bridge kept him from getting the Sting. So I told him about the BAIII and he seemed interested again.

At times threads like these evolve. The subject went awry when the bass ashtrays came into view. I'm going to order an ashtray for my Strat shortly.

I hate them, and threw mine away the same day I got my bass.

Those Bass ashtrays DO look good. Nice diversion from topic. Anyway the OP's question was answered by Arjay. No they won't fit an MIM Standard. If you filled and drilled, are there any other mods (routing) required for a retro-fit?
