Ella Fitzgerald & Louis Armstrong
sing a great version ~ one of my all time favorites.

Most of my friends cannot understand why I love music before the 1970s,
and I study it down to 1939 (for certain reasons) . . . .
But, they just don't pay their dues like they used to.

Very little high quality training today, few are like like Katherine McPhee or Yo-Yo Ma :)

Although Diana Krall, Michael Buble, Harry Connick, et al ~ are very good
especially compared to today's vocalists.

Following below is a "list that I like" of 100 Greatest Jazz Vocalists.
I will be inaccurate a bit, but the artist in BLUE are modern Jazz vocalists
from the past thirty years who got started in the 1980s and/or more recently.

Personally, I happen to like the modern artists since the 1980s,
but, I marked in RED the Jazz vocalists I study, almost full time.
It is a very good chance I own 90% plus of all their (artists in RED) studio recordings.
Most of the modern 1980s-2012 artists cannot compare to the 1940s-1970s artists.

1. Billie Holiday
2. Sarah Vaughan
3. Ella Fitzgerald
4. Nat King Cole
5. Louis Armstrong
6. Nina Simone
7. Dinah Washington

Now, great chance I am wrong (but not that far off)
but there are only nine modern Jazz vocalists from the 1980s-2012.
For the forty years from 1940-1979, there are ninety-one.
Enough said. Don'tcha think?
