Post pics of guitars that you once owned and have since sold or given away.

2002 PRS Custom 22. Sold because I figured for the price I paid it should have become my number one and it just never grew on me. It lacked dynamics and I like dynamic guitars. (sensitivity to touch)

Image

G&L ASAT Special - Tribute. Sold because I wan't playing it very much and a friend fell in love with it and begged me to sell.

More to follow if the thread catches on.

I started a similar thread not too long ago, on a PRS board ironically, lol!

I'll have to dig up the pics again, but I can fill a page or two at least! :)

It's a shame you didn't bond with that PRS, my custom 22 is probably the best, most expressive guitar I've ever owned... But they're understandably not for everyone.

The guitars that are gone now are gone because I quit playing and sold all of my gear. I'm glad I didn't trade it for a gun or I would use it on myself for letting these go. Not playing was not all it was cracked up to be, so I'm back now and rebuilding everything from calluses to amps and guitars:

My ES-335...
Image

My Les Paul...
Image

My really souped-up blonde Strat...bridge stacked h/b pup, Kahler, locking nut, auto-rinse cycle...
Image

My last Strat that I traded for my new one with a maple neck. Funny thing, though, it tastes more like wood than maple. Check out the wood-grain...Sorry, the pic is blurry...

Sorry but I don't have any pix of guitars that were once mine.First was a no-name very cheap acoustic which I loaned to a friend about 40 years ago and haven't seen since. Then there was an excellent PAN copy of a Venture's Mosrite that I traded in on a 1964 Hagstrom II.I had a lovely parlor size Raven acoustic that was very cheap but sounded like a guitar that cost much more, unfortunately that was stolen during a move.I also had a black ash bodied '78 lefty Strat that I changed over to right for Hendrix stuff but it weighed 11 lbs and broke my back so I ended up trading it for a JCM 800,2204 half-stack.

Once owned, then sold:

My long time #1, a cheap but heavily modified Marina Strat, year unknown but I got it in 1990.
As you can see, it changed the look from metallic green to black/yellow tiger type, then to yellow, then to blue tribals on flip/flop very light blue:

1976 Strat, made in Japan:

1986 Strat, made in USA

My very first guitar, an El Maya E 1000. Year unknown but I got it 1981

Thank you, asgeirman! :)

I've been following eBay for a long time hoping to find it and buy it back. I sold it on eBay those days and I still hope it'll show up some day (in good shape, please!)

The painting was done in 2003 but I got that guitar in 1990. I think it was from the early 80s?

You're welcome :D I did not have anything to do with Ibanez at that time - more in the Lawsuit-era : Les Paul & SG
Here is some pics of my very first guitar- given to me by my dear uncle ,at the age of 14 , in 1971  It is a Hofner from 1960 - President or Senator of something like that. A year or two after that I bought an extra pickup , which I some way managed to fit - I wanted a brighter sound . Pretty clever , I think -as I look back  I don't really know where the pick guard is gone.
I gave the guitar to my brother and his family , 4-5 years ago , as I realized that I never played it anymore.

Here is my uncle playing the same (duet w Marilyn ? ) in -66

Another relative playing it in -63

I only have one pic of this one that's worth posting... honeyburst Epi LP plaintop. Traded this one in as part of the deal for my Singlecut Trem, the first PRS I ever owned...
Image

Should probably get this one out of the way... it got me started on the PRS bug. This is one of the Chinese counterfeit PRSi, but it actually played and looked pretty decent for a $300 guitar. Not quite SE quality, but it was fairly well made. I didn't care for the Wilkinson trem or the illegible PRS signature on the headstock, so I ended up getting rid of it. I got my $300 back plus enough to cover the pots, switch, pup rings and re-wiring (I rewired it McCarty style, and swapped out for creme pickup rings), but I basically gave away the case and Duncan pickups I put in it. After this one, I couldn't shake the urge to own the real thing. I kinda wish I still had it, so I could do a side-by-side comparison to a real PRS... at the time I owned this I had never played a real PRS, so I had no basis for comparison. I'm sure it didn't even come close... but it was fun to pretend for a little while.

Here's the Japanese made Antigua Strat I had... it had been owned by a leftie, who plugged the control holes and wired it hot with no volume or tone controls, only a 3 way that switched between the EMG and the two passive single coils somehow... not sure how that worked because I gutted it and rewired it as soon as I got it, with a passive humbucker. I never could find a matching replacement pickguard to restore it back to original 3 single coil status... he had cut the guard to fit the EMG. He also (rather sloppily) installed side marker dots in what I considered the bottom of the neck... and of course there was the obligatory strap button hole in the tip of the lower cutaway arm. This thing had a ton of mojo, but unfortunately, I had a ton of guitars and a ton of bills, and it was last in, first out. :(

Up next, the Samick Avion I got in trade for the tripleneck, probably the worst trade I ever made. At the time, I was convinced I needed to get rid of the triple, and couldn't find a buyer... so I traded it for this, because this came in a replica "california girl" LP case that sweetened the deal on another sale, to a friend of mine who was a huge fan of the pink on the inside, tan on the outside cases. I never really bonded with this guitar... I had intentions of getting a bigsby to put on it to change it up in hopes of falling in love with it (hence the quick photoshop mockup), but I ended up trading it in straight up for an AXL Badwater LP copy instead. Which I also never bonded with, and sold for beans. :(

This had a Dimebucker in it when I got it, which I took out and sold... I put a GFS Dream 90 (humbucker sized P-90 style pup) in it instead, which was cool... but not cool enough to save an otherwise lackluster guitar.

Here's the guitar that went away with the california girl case from the Avion... actually in trade for the Antigua strat above. (Now, THAT was a nice trade... ) I bought this from the same guy who had sold me the green fake Gibby I still have and the fake PRS above. He supposedly had a friend who had been stationed in China and had bought a bunch of fakes over there... he also had a fake SG, a fake Gretsch White Falcon, and a fake ES-335, and a few more that he wasn't looking to get rid of. At least he was selling them all as fakes, and not trying to scam anybody. But enough about that, that's a conversation for another thread...

I did like the look of this one, but the neck was a Louisville Slugger in a previous life, and it was WAY too noisy and feedback prone, even after I gutted and rewired the entire thing. (Which was a royal pain in the $@!... everything goes in and out through the F holes. I think I know why they're called "F" holes now, because a lot of what I muttered during the job started with F.)

Apparently I have a thing for blue LPs, as I've never owned two of anything in any other color...

And speaking of blue LPs...

Here's the blue Epi I had for a while. One of my favorites, but I didn't like the covered '59s nearly as much as the uncovered ones I had put in a previous Epi LP. This one was another victim of "man, I gotta pay some bills..." :(

Wish I had better pics of this one, it looked much better in person. Epi korina Explorer, with Duncan Jazz and JB pups and a USA Gibson case. Scored this one for $200, sold it a few months later for $350... the only guitar I can ever remember turning a profit on. 8)

I loved the way it sounded, loved the way it looked, and I even loved the way it played sitting down... but I could never get comfortable playing it standing up. It was way neck heavy, and loved to nose-dive... my solution for that was to duct tape a few slabs of scrap steel from a local welding shop to the back of the strap about where a wireless transmitter would go, adding about 2 or 3 pounds to the rear of the guitar. That helped balance it out and added some "girth" to a guitar that just needed to feel heavier IMO, but I still couldn't get used to the flat top. At least I made a few bucks off of it that time, instead of the other way around...
