What type of tip do you have on your iron? I bought a temp adjustable station and it's good but the tip is a very thin needle tip. Good for fine intricate stuff but maybe not so good when you want a lot of heat fast. There's an assortment of replacement tips you can buy like the chisel type one's and stuff.

What kind is on your iron and what type do you prefer to work with the most?

I prefer the 'standard' conical tip for most applications. For the stuff where more heat is needed, I will use a 'standard' soldering gun.

For most guitar wiring and speaker wiring I much prefer chisel tips. For working on PCBs conical is better.

I keep an assortment on hand, different applications require a different size and type tip. for pots or chassis connections i use a really fat high mass broad head tip. for your topical point to point work i use a 1mm conical tip. for surface mount stuff i use a .2 mm fine tip and Small 1mm sharp wedge tip for removal. ehhh you get the idea  I have over 20 different tips so I wont list them all

I have a number of different shaped tips depending on the work I'm doing.
A conical shape is good to have and use for most work.

I have so many soldering irons, I don't know what I got. From building slot car chassis's of steel, to RC cars and then the smaller stuff like PCB's.

Bought a bigger chisel tip for my new soldering station iron. I wanted that as well as the fine pointed one the unit shipped with because, on some things, i want to get heat into the joint as quick as possible so as not to be damaging caps and resistors with too much heat
