Luckily I don't have auditions or gigs at this point in my life....
Then again interviewing people as potential employee's in a construction company is just as disconcerting....

hah! So you can't tell me I'm the only one with a crazy musician story! I want to hear about all the looney toons that show up to your auditions, and gigs!

A while back, my band was auditioning drummers. We hooked up with a guy who had his own rehearsal space in his house, good equipment, a P.A. etc. Normally having a rehearsal space would tip things in your favor. But as it turns out ....

This guy was really annoying! He said he had all these 'ins' to get backstage at concerts, and he had a ton of memorabilia in a shrine. Stuff like "so-and-so's broken drums stick" or "Slash's discarded cigarette butt".

He started doing mic checks, and absolutely insisted that we say "sixty-six, seventy-seven" into the mics for mic check.

In the end, we decided that while he brought a lot to the table, we just couldn't bring ourselves to be the "66-77" band. :?

Ah, the "Biggest Fan" musician. Good call on getting out of there. He might go Kathy Bates on ya.

Here's another:

The Story of Angela

I was in a cover band, the band had been going for a while and we were pretty good but it wasn't like we had a big following outside our friends/family/acquaintances. There was one exception though. We started noticing this same (slightly older) woman would keep showing up at our gigs. It wasn't that weird to see her in this one place we played at a lot, we were kind of unofficially the 'house band' there just because we booked the same place so much. We assumed she was just a 'regular' at that bar.

Well soon we started seeing her wherever we played. She became known within the band as "our biggest fan" (and perhaps our only fan).

Then after one show, we all went out to a diner and she was there! So we invited her to sit with us and found out her name was Angela. She was quiet but very nice, hopefully it was a thrill for her to sit with us rock stars!

Thanks....Having a pretty miserable week .....
After having jumped thru hoops for months with a non profit organization that aids underwater home owners secure financing to repair their homes. I bid on 5 jobs, got 0, we bid as low as we could without going into severe risk of working for free if anything went off schedule. ( which in repairing old houses is a guarantee. ) Anyway that has resulted in the almost paid for Avant having been repo'ed day before yesterday. I have till the 19th to get it back by paying $2,100.
Ironically I just landed a job with a contractor on the East Side on a project which if things work out, ( first day is Tuesday ) is allowing me to put my company on mothballs for a while until I rebuild a network, will be functioning as a super and the Go To Creative Guy, find the solution to accomplish the task and keep it under budget....( which is what I do all the time ). I'll have a couple younger people under my wings, which is cool because it's always a boost to your self esteem to advise or direct someone so their skills improve and we all walk away looking good.. :)

So in a nut shell, Yeah...Time's are a challenge, the home life ( wifey ) is pins and needles so....

My apologies to anyone if I have been snippy these last few months.....
But I can see that the sun's out and I have a dastardly double Strat/Tele build to update and keep going.... 8) Pardon the glimpse into my personal life, just needed to let it out....

Sounds like stressful ,hard times :( But the new project might save your car , then ? Perhaps wifey's MLM will add something positive? And you are right - working with younger people is a boost when you're getting them to reach a higher level- makes one feel better ! Just enjoy :) Hopefully future will improve on things. Wish you luck!
( not an attempt of hijacking the thread  )

OMGosh! I watched more than half of the video. Curiosity killed the cat for sure. I consider this a nice, friendly place full of knowledgeable people but something slipped through the cracks.   I'm a meager hard working guy but I need about fifty thousand dollars of psychotherapy after that. Donations welcome.... :o

In an interview, John Lennon said `Most drummers were idiots`.
