I've been getting back into blues again, so my question is who's been your latest guitar influence? Who have you been listening/playing to?

I'll start: I've been playing a lot of Robert Cray. I really enjoy playing even the rhythm to his songs because his leads fit the chords so well. Lots of Robben Ford as well! Love that Tiger Walk album. Do you know of blues artists in particular that use jazz chords in blues? I've been learning about dominant chord extensions and want to find some less common voicings.

I'm all about Nokie Edwards right now... i've already accepted the fact that I won't be playing anywhere near his league anytime soon, but I just love watching that guy play....big Ventures fan anyway, but just lately started pulling up videos of them playing, and seeing it is ten times cooler than hearing it, i think.

I have a long list of musicians to check out ranging from the Derek Trucks band at Georgia Theater to the Weather Report to Bob Dylan songs haha. I just checked out Nokie, he's awesome! I haven't tried the finger pick approach yet. I'll get right on it.

Agreed! I love the Foo Fighters. "Wheels" was pretty much the theme song for my first car haha. Every time I'd get into my car I'd blast wheels; it's amazing I didn't blow out my speakers. It can be hard to find good music, you really have to look for it sometimes. I haven't listened Lionel yet, any songs in particular I should check out?

As far as influences for blues goes,Hubert Sumlin,Albert King,Lightnin' Hopkins and Muddy Waters have always been my biggest influences and not just the most recent.

I really dug the collaboration of Jason Aldean and Lionel of Say you Say me..and I think my favorite is Hello with Jennifer Nettles...I absolutely love the guitar solo near the end..it just has that "something" tone..Its just a cool idea mixing Country musicians and Lionel Richie..just image Willie Nelson and Lionel..haha...The Part where Willie sings.." I wanna be high so high in the lyrics of Why Im easy..hysterical.. haha

I like Jason Aldean, I'll give that one a listen. I've heard "Hello" before actually, I like the tremolo throughout the song. Agreed, Lionel's got a great voice. Have you guys ever listened to Walter Trout? He's got some good blues. He was playing with John Lee Hooker when he was 23 and then he played with John Mayall afterwards. I saw him perform locally and he's quite an entertainer too.

Listen to this little guy. He's pretty good!

Yup! Here's the short version - while he was playing he was telling a funny story about how the first time that he played with John Lee Hooker, Hooker came over to tell him something and all he heard was "a bub bub, bub bub, bub bub. Alright?" and he replied "Sure! Got it!" Haha

Lately I've been getting into a lot of Jeff Beck. Blow by Blow is getting almost as many plays as Texas Flood did when I first heard it.

Not new, I've also rediscovered just how much I like ZZ Top and Led Zeppelin. I think that Les Paul I got from Battle of the Blues has a lot to do with that. Fenders are still my thing though, it's just nice to have something from both sides of the fence now.

For me the biggest influence now, and for as long as I have played it is without a doubt David Gilmour.

Right now it's Joe Satriani and Steve vai.

As far as Blues goes, it's presently Walter Trout, Julian Sas, Eric Sardinas and older Doors stuff.

All time influences: Status Quo, SRV, Rory Gallagher, ZZ Top
