I moved my songs to a new computer and I have multiple copies of many songs in my iTunes. I have sorted to find Duplicates and I am currently going through and deleting them manually. Does anyone know of a better way to sort for duplicates? Right now I have to select every other song. It would be nice if there was a better way to sort them so I could select a larger block.

It wouldn't be so bad if it was only a couple hundred songs but I have over 2500 which means that I currently have over 5000 in my iTunes.

I'm currently on the D's and I've been at it for awhile.

I had a similar issue once, but I don't remember exactly how I solved it. One way is to go into the library, and delete the actual files if you actually have two copies stored there. Sometimes you can delete the unwanted files faster that way... then go in and re-consolidate your library. That might help... I would also try asking on an Apple or iTunes related forum, they would probably know better. Good luck, I know it sucks...

I've also been into that sh** . Serious trouble - even not MacGyver could solve it :( .....
Like him , I don't quite remember how I solved it . But there is an option in iTunes to find duplicates- I remember printing out some lists -before deleting - I have close to 20.000 songs in there - no need for doubles
I guess Apples Forums have some ideas

You can find all the duplicates in your library by clicking on "Display Duplicates" under the "File" menu.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Thanks for the help. I just took some time today and powered through it. A google search tipped me off to the trick of holding shift when you click on File allows you to choose "Display Exact Duplicates", but I found that this is not what I thought it was. I thought the display exact would give me the same song by the same artist on the same album but it didn't. I have a lot of blues compilation albums so I have repeats (some the same, some not) but it didn't pair the songs up exactly.

I just did the "Display Duplicates" and looked at each song and group selected the duplicates and then manually deleted them. It was pretty much every other song except for a few albums that were in the library 3 times (?). I deleted by what was on the screen at one time so I was able to select about 14-17 duplicates at a time.

It just seems like there should be an easier way to clean up your library but I could find one anywhere. :x
