A few weeks ago I posted a video of the reunited Screamin' Armadillos...here's another video from the same party.

I had mentioned last time about all the health problems we (as a group) had suffered through in the last few years. These videos have been bittersweet, because I see where we still have the fire and passion, but time and illnesses have taken a toll on us. This was one of the few songs where Terry (the guitarist playing the sunburst Strat) solo'd; since recovering from his stroke, he's had to fight to get his physical abilities back. I admire his courage and his "never say die" attitude.

The song is called "Panther City Blues"; it is referring to a lesser-known nickname of Fort Worth. The legend behind the nickname can be found here:

"In 1875, the Dallas Herald published an article by a former Fort Worth lawyer, Robert E. Cowart, who wrote that the decimation of Fort Worth's population, caused by the economic disaster and hard winter of 1873, had dealt a severe blow to the cattle industry. He further stated that the harm to the cattle industry, combined with the railroad stopping the laying of track 30 miles (48 km) outside of Fort Worth, had caused Fort Worth to become such a drowsy place that he saw a panther (cougar, mountain lion) asleep in the street by the courthouse. Although an intended insult, the name Panther City was enthusiastically embraced when in 1876 Fort Worth recovered economically. Many businesses and organizations continue to use Panther in their name. The Fort Worth police have a panther prominently set at the top of their badge."

I wrote the song with the assistance of the drummer, while I was recovering from a surgery. I don't really remember writing it (strong painkillers!) but fortunately he was there to write down the lyrics. I hope you enjoy...

Despite the sad history of illness - you seemed to have a good time! Terry did well - especially considering his stroke. Great song ! :D

Thank you...

BTW, I'm playing slide on the G&L Nighthawk formerly owned by the esteemed Mr. Traweek. This was my first gig with it! 8)

Hey, I like Terry's playing. Which side did his stroke effect? He looks like he's doing better than me, hand and arm wise anyway.
Anyway digged that song. I even picked up my guitar and started jamming along

I believe it affected his left side more, but I really can't remember. The problem he has now is getting the motor functions to work "in time"...his hands will do what he wants them to do, just not when he wants them to do it. It frustrates him greatly.

That is a huge compliment to me--when someone is inspired to pick up and jam or get up and dance or even just tap their toe, I see that as the best type of appreciation...thank you, and thanks to everyone who enjoyed it.

Oh man, just seen this vid! THAT's the medicine! 8)

SA, I love your harp playing - and I really love your guitar playing! Especially with a slide. Such a good sound. Sweet singing too.

Great song, great playing, great sound, great video. Yes yes yes!

So when's the album out, please?

BTW: is Mr Traweek kicking himself for letting that axe go? Are ya, Brad...? :)

Cheers - C
