Do you have insurance on your gear?
Is your insurance part of your homeowner policy?
Are you covered when you leave the house with your gear?
Do you have insurance through a specialty insurer?, if so who?

The reason I ask is because we are going to downsize to a manufactured home and our insurance company doesn't want to cover manufactured homes, so I need to look for another company to deal with.

I hear ya bro. I prefer the "chick-chack" protection plan (12 gauge pump), but I'm not always at home, so I need a plan "B" just in case.

Man. I thought about doing this years ago, and never did. Now I'm thinking about it again. Good luck, and please keep us posted with anything you find out in your search.

What do you mean by manufactured house, do you mean modular build...???

Strange that your Insurance would not cover your new home, if it is built according to codes and meets those codes, stick built or modular should not be an issue...
I would vote with my feet on that one and seek another insurance carrier for anything thet insurance company covers you for....

I suggest looking into Chubb Insurance, they specialize in private home ownership but more importantly, the contents of that home based on real time values...And Yes, I know their clientele is affluent but they will insure homes in a wide ranging set of values.

I think if you check it out, most home owner insurance policies have a product that's often called a "professional rider" (at least this is what my ins. co. calls it.) and it will cover things like music / photo / video gear.

So yes, these items are covered outside of your home. The kicker here is make sure it's FULL REPLACEMENT VALUE. otherwise, most apply a depreciation schedule. For cars and tires, that fits, for guitars and amps, it does not.

So get the words "full replacement" into the discussion when you inquire with your ins. carrier.

I have once such rider for my gear (Metlife) and it's not all that expensive. (reminds me, I need to add some stuff....)

Good replies so far guys, keep them coming. KidBlast had some good advice about full replacement value. You really do need to read the fine print with insurance companies.
