I need to know if the stock Geddy Lee pickups have beveled or flat pole pieces...

My used '05 Geddy Lee has beveled poles, but the loaded pickguard set I just got from ebay that is supposedly from a Geddy Lee has flat pole piece pickups. I bought the set to replace the pickups in m MIM Antigua jazz bass so that they would have the same pickups, but obviously they are not the same. I'm worried that either the pickups were changed by Fender some time between 2005 and now, (as I assume these came from a new bass bought for parting out,) or perhaps that the previous owner had changed the pickups in my Geddy before I bought it, and I won't have any way of identifying them.

I'm hoping the seller will allow me to return these, but if not, I guess I'm screwed. I'm sure they came out of a Geddy Lee, as the pickguard seems right... (Has the extra hole in the center like mine does, and I haven't seen that on any other current models.) I'm mainly worried that since the Geddy model is supposedly now made in Mexico, these might be the exact same pickups that I already have in the Antigua... which would make the purchase and the pickup swap pointless.

Any insight would be appreciated... I need to know what I'm talking about as I negotiate this with the ebay seller. I'm hoping they will be flexible and understanding, but if they decide to play hardball, I don't want to be talking out of my rear-end... I guess next step is to pull a pickup out of my Geddy and see if there are any identifying markings on the bottom... :(

The pickups on my Geddy Lee:

The pickups I recieved from Ebay, sold as Geddy Lee pickups:

The pickups on my MIM Antigua:

I don't know for a fact that my Geddy's pickups are stock, but the fact that the new "Geddy" pickups look just like the Mexi pickups makes me suspect something odd. Obviously I don't want to install them until I hear from the seller, but what do you guys think?

Also, here's his photo from the ebay auction:

The pickups in his photo look to me to be more similar to the ones in my Geddy than the ones in my 'Tiggy. The ones I recieved, not so much.

Thoughts?

Interesting dilemma, Mac. I've not seen beveled pole pieces such as you have, but I am no pick-up expert. Good photos by the way :) . I'd pull one just to see if there are any identifing marks. Since you did not purchase your Geddy Lee new, those may very well be aftermarket p'ups. They're obviously good sounding as you want the same in your new Antigua. Best of Luck to you in your quest. 8)

Yeah, hopefully the seller will let me return them. I'm betting the ones I have are aftermarket. I don't know what they are, but since I don't really need the pickguard or control plate anyway, if I can get my money back on the whole package and just pick up a set of Dimarzios or Duncans, I'll be better off, and save some cash in the process. For that matter, the stock 'Tiggy pups aren't horrible... I could live with them, and keep all the loot for other uses, like maybe a compressor or rack tuner to put in the rack case with the amp head.

Or, you know, bills and stuff.

Oh, and in other aggravations today, I also had a chrome thumbrest on the way from ebay. Both it and the pickup/pickguard set were showing as "out for delivery" by USPS tracking number info... well, I got the pickups, and not the thumbrest. :x As of right now, both packages are still showing up as "out for delivery"... so I'll have to contact the post office tomorrow and figure out if my thumbrest managed to roll up under the mailman's seat in the mail truck or something.

Today was not a good ebay day.

A board search for "Geddy Lee" brought up this thread:

http://www.fender.com/community/forums/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=69770&hilit=geddy+lee&sid=c85e6d0a8ef988e0e56d4bd16ae444dd

The photos to which the OP in that thread linked show pickups that resemble my existing pickups... but he also bought his used! :?

I also saw mention of the GL having USA made "Vintage Jazz" pickups, so my next step is a google search of that model pickup. Wish me luck...

It's not looking good for the ebay seller at this point though, IMO. I think I'll be pushing for a refund.

Yup... I think that seals the deal:

http://www.fender.com/products/vintage-jazz-bass-pickups

Now I not only know that these ebay pickups are incorrect, but I also know which pickups I need, and I can just go get a new set when I get my money back.

I think I feel a little better now. :D

Yes, they are definateley a different pickup than the ones in the ebay picture
In the ebay picture , the light from the camera flash, is being reflected off the polepiece bevels here

Update - got a reply from the seller. He confirmed that the assembly I received was in fact mexican, and offered a full refund. I knew I smelled a rat, lol!

I asked him about keeping the pickguard in case I ever decide to remove the thumbrest I added... Haven't heard back on that yet, but either way I'll get enough back to buy a new set of Vintage Jazz pickups and be right where I wanted to be, possibly with cash to spare! :D

Today is looking better than yesterday, although the post office still has no clue where my chrome thumbrest might be. :x

Yup.

Oh, and my chrome thumbrest was in the mailbox when I got home today too... It's a good day, apparently! :)
