Well I did a string change and noticed shortly after I started playing that the floating bridge is pulled way up, higher than normal, because of the string tension. Can anyone tell me how to remedy this? Don't really want to play it until I can figure this out for fear of screwing something up. Appreciate any help.

Sounds like you may have placed heavier strings on your guitar without adjusting the trem claw to add spring tension. If that's the case it's a simple fix. Remove the back cover and tighten the trim claw screws slightly, retune, and check to see if the bridge has leveled itself out. When switching to lighter gage strings you sometimes have to do just the opposite and and loosen the screws to level the bridge plate.

Doh! I should've thought of that. I went from slinkys to fender bullets so that definitely makes sense. Thanks a lot! If I could email you a chocolate chip cookie I would.

Check this out while you're at it. I swear, it really works. Saved my sanity when I was tryin' to get my American Deluxe set up.

With my last American Strat when I went to .12's, I had to add an extra trem spring.

Seriously, if you follow Carl Verheyen's set up you won't need extra springs. It's all in the way you adjust the claw. It is so worth the time you have to spend doing the adjustments 'cause when it's done your tuning problems will disappear and you can actually use your vibrato! That was one of the main reasons I wanted a Strat, bein' a huge Hank Marvin fan.
I wish I could remember who posted this video originally. I owe them a major vote of thanks. Until I found it I was frustrated beyond belief with a fantastic guitar that I had dreamed of for almost 50 years.

Out of curiosity, I set mine up like in the video about 6 months ago and must say, it does stay in tune a lot better

At the top of this page under "Support" you'll see "How-to" guides and then pick the "Stratocaster". Within that you'll see how to adjust the trem
