Well it only took 29 years but I finally got a Stevie Ray Vaughn album. I went for Texas Flood and it is superb.

I had read loads of guys on here saying that he was an influence in their music and now I know why.

Now I know what licks and riffs I've heard a lot of on youtube now!! :D

It is safe to say that I will be picking up more albums in the future.

Tom

Congratulations! I discovered him early in my playing career, but put him aside for what was in at the time. I also put off seeing him the last time he was playing in Houston, still kicking my own $@! for that one. I still listen to him at least a few songs a week.

Better late than never.

In years past I devoted a large amount of time to finding and buying every single audio and video release from Stevie. There's a lot of stuff, but I have it all now and love listening to and watching one of my favorite artists.

If only...

Still listening to it now really enjoying SRV's sound. I remember hearing Eric Clapton say that SRV would not need to take a break from solos, he just knew where he was going with the solo and went for it. What a quality to have. If I could play a quarter of what he could I would be over the moon.

Shame you didn't get to the gig I had a similar thing with Nirvana when I was a nipper which does make you regret it but at least we all still have the music.

Why do so many musicians have die young?

I think I might have to take on that challenge!

Looking forward to getting the other albums.

No shame man!

The older we get and mature, our opinions change. I use to despise Pink Floyd.
Now that I started playing guitar, I think they are one of the greatest bands of all time.

I respect them more now than I did growing up.

So I see where you are coming from. Enjoy your Stevie Ray Vaughn selection!

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

I remember I was the same when I was a kid with the Beatles when my Mum would say "they were a great band, I saw them live in 5 times in the 60's"

I would be like "I don't want to listen to them, all that old music" until one day I was in the car with them and she put the white album on. When While my guitar gently weeps came on my jaw hit the floor.

I still get a bit jealous when she says that she saw the stones, the who, Led Zeppelin and a load of others.

Oh I was the same with Pink Floyd too!

What a wally I was :D

haha parents and their stories. my dad saw T-Rex at a local venue, only a few hundred people there despite it being when they were pretty famous. ive been to the venue, its only slightly bigger than your average pub.

as for SRV. i have never got into it. i brought a couple of albums on reccomendation of a friend, i listened to them a couple of times, and then for the least, 7 or so years they've sat in a cupboard with the other cd's i dont listen to anymore.

I actually just got into SRV about a year ago, but like others have said, better late then never. The man was amazing! His work is truly inspiring.

Cheers guys

That's the great thing about music, what speaks to some might not for others!

The T-Rex gig must have been really cool. The only thing close to that was my brother when he was on study leave for his GCSE exams. He was 16 and my mum heard on the radio that the rolling stones were doing a secret gig at the Brixton academy and only a small amount of tickets were available. I think it was for the Voodoo Lounge tour but I could be wrong.

She told him to not worry about revision and get down to HMV Oxford Street to get tickets. She said you will not regret it and he didn't the lucky old sod.

I don't recall getting told to not revise when I sat my exams four years later!!! :D :D

Texas Flood is a perfect choice to start with (his first album, released in 1983). I got into SRV around the time 'In Step' came out, 1989-1990ish. I highly recommend that album too.
