He's specifies the thickness of a guitar pick giving the value at 0.025 which is 1/5th the thickness of 0.125. This has me confused.. :? BTW: my friends call me "Doc"....friend

Hi,

Can anyone tell me if both of the '56 strats( ash and alder) are alnico III pickups or is it just the ash?

Also is the '59 alnico V?

Thanks,

:)

Wow ZZDoc never told me to call him Doc

Heya ZZDoc, Ahhh ok...your confusion caused me confusion and now.....well...the picture says it.
Let's simplify and leave the math largely out of it....the original guitars varied (ok...from .100 to .125 Shhhh.) and the new vintages are towards the top of that scale....which means that they are at the thicker end of that particular scale.

But...let me throw this in... as inferred -originals were obviously looked at and measured and we went from there.
My own personal observation and belief is that wood will almost certainly shrink a bit over time....over 45-50 years....but again....you're talking about a pretty tight tolerance ( maybe about the thickness of a pick.... as a general example). So.....pretty close in my book.
Cheers,
rob

The confusion arises from the value .025 in your original response and the reference to the thickness of a guitar pick. Should we take that for a typo :?:
.....and....if makes you feel better "you can call me Al"  ......but 'Doc" will do just fine.

Doc!! :D

yeh....let's call the guitar pick a "visual aid", because roughly speaking thats about the difference in thickness.

Cheers,
rob

Hi JonS
The 56's Strats all have the Alnico3's
the 59's and 65's have the Alnico 5's

All the best,
rob

The fretboard on the new '65 Reissue is WAY thicker compared to the originals. It looks strange to me.

Also, the 59 reissue strat doesn't have the right curve where the rosewood meets the maple headstock face. The original slabs always had a slight convex curvature, but the reissues are straight.

I may get a '65 but would probably have it re-radiused to 9.5 and install some medium jumbo frets. Maybe it's good that the veneer is a bit thicker. Would make this process easier on the luthier.

Different strokes I always say but I wonder why you'd want to spend the coin on that guitar and then remake it, so to speak. For example, I wouldn't take the Lace Sensor's out of my '89 Clapton or change the pickups in my Gilmour. However, if the vibe of the concept is what you seek and your intent is to make it more playable in your hands, I suppose the additional investment in either time, money or both could be justified.

Once again a 9.5" radius/medium jumbo option on each of these models would be fantastic and invite in a lot more buyers. Rob? :)

It's an understandable request but methinks it defeats the purpose of the run. They just discontinued 2 AVRI models in lieu of the new line.

Hiya trustee and all,
While i can't disagree that 9.5" radius with medium jumbos is popular, would you agree that this is a more modern flavor and taste rather than a vintage feel and vibe---certainly with Fenders?
Seems like what we're talking about is a hot-rodded vintage guitar, which i think we already have covered pretty well with the Road Worn Player's and the Vintage Hot Rods.

again...folks here DO keep an eye on this and other forums, so you're not going unheard, but if you ask me personally.....and also again---keep in mind that I'm no great shakes as a player....I've just played an awful lot of the Vintage Series since the 80's....and i think this incarnation is pretty sweet and i feel like they ( or we!!!) got it right. Of course, that's just my totally biased opinion for what its worth. If you haven't done so yet< i hope you get a chance to get out there and try one or several of the new guitars.
Cheers, and noted!
best to ya,
rob
