....:O)...so the question REALLY is "Do I Think that I...could get those geniuses....etc"

hmmm offhand I would just say "nah" I don't think I could...on the other hand....if i received a whole bunch of uniquely addressed requests for the same thing....perhaps yes indeed! ;O)

Its good that you're liking the lacquer, ZZ, but maybe you might wanna not inhale quite so deeply........ :P :)

cheers,
rob

I did set up a poll on the Squier Forum but I can't say how well participated in it is going to be. The suggestion for the neck on that model is certainly not without merit given the time period the guitar is supposed to represent, as it is also with the Road Worn series of that era.

As for the lacquer...couldn't be much worse than the cleaning fluids and airplane glues of days gone by which were inhaled for sport....present company not included. 8)

I'd also like to know what "New Fender Flash Coat Lacquer" actually means (and I'm not the only one...).

+ 1

Hi all,
Look I KNOW that I'm all Fenderized and stuff, but I did get a chance to pick up a few of these briefly and give them a little play and they really, truly are PURE VINTAGE....pretty cool stuff...even though admittedly I work here and all. So for what its worth, ok?

To answer the question(s), the term "Flash Coat Lacquer" refers to the quick, thin, final "flash" of lacquer applied. On all of the new American Vintage Guitars, the sealer, color, and topcoats are 100% nitrocellulose lacquer---all very thin.

If you haven't already checked out the vids and all the info, there's lots to check out.
have a look see if ya get a minute. http://www.fender.com/products/americanvintage/

hope that helps,
cheers,
rob

Sweet. This should make them easier to naturally "Relic", AND let the wood sing, correct?

I agree.

By the way just found out that the American Vintage section at Fender.com has been changed, and there are no basses now?

Hi Sarigul,

Nice catch! looks like we need to fix a link, I'll let the web folks know.
Still linked to the bass on the actual page (with the pictures)....the sidebar is being wacky though.
http://www.fender.com/products/americanvintage/american-vintage-57-precision-bass

All still very viable models!

Personally....I like it cause i get to look at the new stuff some more ;O)

Cheers,
rob

Hi Rob,

I heard that Chris Fleming was heavily involved with these new American Vintage guitars.

Hi 56Strat,
As always, there was a great team involved with the project, but yes, Chris Fleming's talents were definately put to good use.
Cheers!

Rob - how about a 9.5" radius/medium jumbo option on each of these models. Don't make us wait for FSRs - these would fly off the shelf with these mods IMO. Thanks!

hey all, wanted to weigh in on this discussion.

just bought a 59 reissue strat in black - sounds great and plays like a dream. never been happier with a guitar. with a few caveats.

on my guitar you can clearly see dips in the body wood at the seems. these aren't glue lines - these appear to be "over sanded" areas along the seams. not the kind of thing i can see when i'm playing, but when the guitar is sitting on the stand my eye snaps right to the problem areas. every time. LOL.

the screws holding the pickguard in place really are all over the place. bent in different directions and every one at a different depth...

so i get the complaints of one poster - really this is a premium guitar, and you don't see these kinds of issues with american standards... you gotta wonder why they show up in a guitar that's twice the price...

when i think about it, i've always kind of had that issue with the american vintage series from fender. whether it's finish, neck pockets being wonky or screws all over the place. i get that these are "hand made" but geez, guys... take 5 seconds longer and make it right!

so this begs the question... why did i keep a guitar with obvious aesthetic flaws?

love the sound and it plays like a dream. i didn't notice the dips in the wood on the body while in the store to be honest... that might have been enough for me to return the guitar but it seems i put my own knick in the guitar and rendered it unreturnable.

i know.. i know - you don't buy a guitar to look at, right? you buy it to play? well.. yes and no. when you shell out for a premium guitar you're investing at least a bit in how it looks. otherwise everyone would have the same color (hehe)... doens't change how i'm going to use the guitar.. but the flaws are there. and they shouldn't be.

so why this post? well hopefully fender will hear that customers are noticing these issues. really, just 5 seconds longer in quality control and all this goes away...

me, i'm happy with my guitar and expect to play it and enjoy it for years... or at least until i get a custom shop strat.. LOL!

gub

p.s. i don't think i stressed how amazing the pickups sound. i like strats and i've never heard a strat i like as much as this one. really really good!
