Drawing from Phil Taylor's book, the neck on the Black Strat was swapped out in 2005 for the neck from his 1983 57V cream Strat. Taylor includes a photo of Fender employee Jose Moreno holding that neck he built. His name is shown stamped on the back of the neck. The neck date is 11-2-83, That made it the 6th neck on that guitar since inception. I would also expect the neck on the celebrated Red Strat to have the same style neck carve in that they were acquired together. It makes sense then, that the neck would be replicated for the Gilmour guitar project. I personally find that neck far more comfortable in my hand than their 'modern C' save for the gloss finish.

For those asking about upcoming additions to the series ... my lips are sealed but I can certainly put in a good word. :-)

Nice effort but I hope they plan on a '57 Stratocaster. I was of the opinion that the '54, '57, and '59 were the most popular of that decade. That 10/56 neck is too much for me.

Hi Doc,

That's a +1 on your opinion on the 10/56 neck. I hope that the neck on the new '56 factory model will not be quite as thick as its CS counterpart.

Off-topic; David Gilmour seems to prefer the old C shaped necks as made on the early 80's reisues... these guitars, like all vintage reissue strats have the 7.25" neck radius... I wonder how come he (apparently...) does not have any problems with high bends? Very high string action? Or are these necks modified in any other way?

B.

-from the general reading of the specs on that guitar, IMHO it appears that the 10/56 is the one. :?

-I have never seen any specs concerning the setup of his guitars with respect to the above. Videos of him bending in and out of notes certainly point to the fact that the man has a very strong left hand.B.

Hmm, just like Clapton... in spite of the huge amount of information available on the gear they are using, the string action both gentlemen use remains shrouded in mystery. Strange, eh?

The only thing I've ever seen about that regarding Eric's was a constant string height of 1/8th of an inch from the nut to the bridge. Photos of 'ol Blackie and other guitars set up for him show the bridge saddles in a very specific arrangement common to all his Stratocaster guitars. Best seen in the Christies Auction catalog of 2004.

The Jaguars went up $800. That's ridiculous.

From the ridiculous to the sublime. Check out the MSRP's on the Custom Shop guitars.

I'd also like to know what "New Fender Flash Coat Lacquer" actually means (and I'm not the only one...).

+ 1

Hi all,
Look I KNOW that I'm all Fenderized and stuff, but I did get a chance to pick up a few of these briefly and give them a little play and they really, truly are PURE VINTAGE....pretty cool stuff...even though admittedly I work here and all. So for what its worth, ok?

To answer the question(s), the term "Flash Coat Lacquer" refers to the quick, thin, final "flash" of lacquer applied. On all of the new American Vintage Guitars, the sealer, color, and topcoats are 100% nitrocellulose lacquer---all very thin.

If you haven't already checked out the vids and all the info, there's lots to check out.
have a look see if ya get a minute. http://www.fender.com/products/americanvintage/

hope that helps,
cheers,
rob

Hey Rob...with all this creative reimagination do you think you could get those geniuses to put a v-neck on the Squier Classic Vibe '50s just like the one they put on the Road Worn '50s. 'S'matter with ya'll? Maybe they can flash coat laquer it too

Doc!

....:O)...so the question REALLY is "Do I Think that I...could get those geniuses....etc"

hmmm offhand I would just say "nah" I don't think I could...on the other hand....if i received a whole bunch of uniquely addressed requests for the same thing....perhaps yes indeed! ;O)

Its good that you're liking the lacquer, ZZ, but maybe you might wanna not inhale quite so deeply........ :P :)

cheers,
rob
