Well...nothing new generally ships until after the NAMM.(National Assoc of Music Manufacturer's] winter meeting. And NAMM also means...'not available, maybe May'.

Dont know if this has been asked earlier on the thread, gave up on page6. Can anyone tell me if the 62 hot rod strats are still in production.
Obviously the 62 AVRI has been dropped for the new line up. But what about the hot rods?
Or is there a new hot rod line coming?
Cheers.

Hi dc01, still on the website http://www.fender.com/guitars/stratocaster/?&series=Vintage%20Hot%20Rod&brand=Fender
Still in our reference files as being open and seeing that some shipped in December.
All indicators are that it they are still with us.
Hope that helps,
all the best,
rob

I think they should definitely keep it alive and offer some more custom colors, like Surf Green, and Ocean Turquiose, that would be nice.

Anyone know what case comes with the 65 AV Strat? I want to buy a new case for my vintage 65 Strat. I have a 58 AV Tele that came with a brown G&G that would be perfect except I'd like black or maybe that tweed blue/grey (so I can tell them apart). I'd also like something with the less plush gold or orange interior, instead of the over plush red orange some of the new cases have. Is something like that available?

Here's my AV Tele case:

Your '65 Strat likely would've shipped with the no-logo black Tolex case lined with orange poodle-plush interior and fitted with a leather-wrapped handle. At that time those cases were built by Victoria Luggage, the same company making Fender's amp covers. The G&G repro is an excellent representation of that case, with only minor detail differences.

G&G will build what you wish, but you might do better pricewise on eBay. Basic black is likely the best way to go if you don't want to advertise what you're carrying. For the vintage vibe, you have to wear your tweeds.

No leverage.... I absolutely refuse to be in a state of insurmountable debt Once again...
I just finished paying off some outstanding obligations.
I have a small auto pmt and a Mortgage... The former I plan to be PD off by next year the mortgage by 2018... Then we can look for expensive made to order Custom Shops...

I'm still building my own and that will have to do for the time being...
Yes the Tele is still awaiting completion... Everything is there I just need to have a time window of about 15 consecutive hours.... Will wait until School Vacation...

Cheers...

You do quite right by yourself. Need to be proud of that. As for me....I'm way, way down the road you've yet to travel, and I wish you the same good luck at the end of the tunnel. Wait'in on that Torino Red Clapton Stratocaster. The reward for travel'in forty miles of bad road.

I really wish Fender would offer an alternative to the G&G cases. My experience has been far from good, with shoddy workmanship (really bad alignments and seams) and a perfumed plush that gives nitro/lacquer finish guitars case rash.
I don't care if it looks vintage if it doesn't have the quality of yore, made by someone with a minimum of pride in what they're doing.

I've been critical of their cases for years, particularly for the Custom Shop guitars. PRS blows them away!.

I'm tempted to try out Ameritage cases. They are twice the price, but I really don't like what the G&G case does to my Select, or how much I have to fight it to get it closed.
Anyone have any experience with Ameritage?

Yes exactly, I didn't get one with mine (you had to pay extra back then, I was 13) :( but found a deal on a 64/65 Jag case, I've owned both of them since 65. I put a 2x4 block in the top to deal with the length but I've recently refinished and want something that fits. The Jag case is now an 'ultimate relic'. :D

I've been noticing the same thing, the ones on eBay seem the closest to what I'd expect a 65 to be, and the prices are better, GC doesn't seem to have them. Black does seem most authentic for a 65, but I could go tweed. I was just wondering if anyone got an AV 65 what case came with it (what Fender considered 'authentic'). I don't gig much so don't really need something very strong, but wouldn't be happy about case rash.

I noticed they got one pickguard screw position wrong on the AV 65 (at least the Fender picture), the one above the middle pickup should be further back. The custom shop got it right. Thanks for your input guys.

In 1968 I was the second owner of a 1966 Strat, with the original case (black with orange interior, just as I described). The other guitarist in the band I happened to be in owned a 1964 Jaguar. Its case was also original to the instrument and the cosmetics matched mine exactly. Thus, if authenticity is your goal you should search for a black case.

Were they leather, tolex, or leather-painted cardboard (which was in in the 50s)?
