My local GC told me that they have no plans to carry these....ever. I've heard from others on other forums that their local GCs were not doing the line either. Makes it very frustrating to audition and potentially purchase!

I've only found them available in one store in the state of Florida, and it's 8 hours away from me...in Panama City. A location far removed from the majority of the population of the entire state.

@Kyle:Have a look at http://www.A1Aguitarsandart.com They are in Dania Beach, and they have them. Perhaps that's a shorter run than Panama City.

Wonder at Rob's take on the comments we have made regarding Guitar Center's inventory intentions. IMHO it makes sense that a boutique dealer would have high end guitars in stock sooner than GC. GC hangs all it's high end guitars 18 feet off the floor. So does Sam Ash, for that matter. Honestly, it's a definite deal breaker for people like me. Some of you may remember that I started my last deal ['57VHR] with GC and wound up giving it over to The Music Zoo.

Rob....How does marketing/sales deal with issues like this or do they? Is the volume of low end product an offset in their minds?

Thanks for the tip ZZDoc - I'll check them out soon. I figured if I had to mail order, I'd call someplace like Willcutt, Dave's, or the Zoo. I just don't want to end up with a guitar over 8 lbs, so I'd have to be able to trust their weight specs.

Hi there!

First: with a little help and a little digging-
the following Guitar Centers have the NEW American Vintages
Hallandale (Miami)
Orlando
Clearwater

A couple of things to keep in mind.

The New American Vintage Series guitars have been out a fairly short amount of time.

Demand is pretty high (thanks!!)

With limited available product right now, chains like GC will likely roll the first ones out to their top locations first, with as wide a selection as possible (which enables demo'ing) until the supply allows for expansion to their other locations.
So for the time being the ability to demo is a bit limited (as you've experienced).

......And I SHOULD mention that although optimally for you, for them, and for us, there's enough product so that you CAN walk in , pick one up and give it a try (as long as you don't play "Stairway"!!..... ok...that's just MY rule) if you're actually ready to buy, you CAN order from any store/location or online.
No good dealer is going to stick you with something you aren't happy with.

@Kyle: Kyle, are you talking to Store Managers or...??? You're the customer---they want to sell.....let them know you'd like to see/try a couple. It's all about supply and demand isn't it? I have a feeling that they'd rather you buy from them then buy somewhere else.

Doc, though i'm not sure who Kyle is talking to (but see above) I DO know that Guitar Center is a fairly large corporation and let me just say in any business, some days internal communication is spot on and fantastic......other days, not so much...ourselves included. The bigger the business is, the more difficult it becomes to keep the communication lines flowing. That's my take on THAT because..(leading to the next part..)

Having been in Sales for a decent amount of time here, let me just answer mostly in general by saying that in MY experience, our authorized dealer network is very supportive of most, if not all of our endeavors.
Though I haven't sat in on many "high level" meetings with Guitar Center in particular, I HAVE personally been working with them since around '87, and feel like they always have had a pretty well rounded mix of our products--low to high. So I'm not sure where the "offset" would come into play. In fact, I'm sure that there is no "offset".
As far as how Sales/Marketing deal with issues......well...simply put, we (Fender) talk to our dealers all day-everyday. Its a partnership. We support them--they support us....like that.

As always folks, thats my honest take for whatever its worth.
All the best,
rob

Thanks Rob - I'll check with Clearwater again on Saturday. I talked to a mgr in the guitar dept 2-3 weeks ago. He hadn't heard of the line, but we pulled up the 65 Strat online. After looking at his computer screen he told me that they wouldn't be carrying any of the new AVRIs, it would be special order only.

Looks like a ride further south is in order too.

Well the Clearwater GC DID have a 65 Strat but it sold yesterday! That's good news though as they're going to get more in. I'm really looking forward to hearing these.

Saw a new AVRI 64 Tele at Clearwater GC today. Didn't plug in as I'm not in the market for a Tele...the 65 Strat sold the first day it was in. The fit and finish seemed good and the guitar was resonant enough. The selector switch was broken though. Not sure what that was about. And not just the tip, but the whole switch was stuck in the middle position.

Still hoping to see a Strat soon enough.

Did you have to bring your climbing gear to get at it? Sounds like not, given the broken part. Headbanger kamikazes at work.
