Hey guys, if I'm using "Fender 57 reissue Stratocaster made in Japan since 1993 with Lindy Fralin Blues Special pickup playing through Marshall tube amp" to play some John Mayer's songs (esp songs from his concert film "Where the light is" Live in Los Angeles). Which guitar effect pedal would you guys suggest me to buy? BTW I'm kind of on a limited budget.. Would be best if the effect pedal isn't too expensive but has good quality and worth buying! Cheers :)

Right now my favorite is the DigiTech Eric Clapton Crossroads pedal, if you can find one on flea-bay or somewhere. I am a Digitech fan as for budget constraints and have found all of them to be real good. Might look at the Blues Overdrive or Bad Monkey. the can be found new or nearly new from $25 to $50. Maybe a combo of the two? Anyway, that's my two-cents. Hopefully been helpful. :)

I've read Mayer uses a Keeley modded Boss Blues Driver. This is a popular pedal with many people, not just John Mayer. I believe they can be ordered direct from Keeley. Otherwise, a stock one would run $100.

My guess is it would sound great through an all-tube Marshall.

Not sure what to tell you here. What sound are you trying to get? Do you want seperate stompboxes, or a multi effect unit.

Lately I've been getting a lot of use out of this:

Fulltone Mini Deja-Vibe 2

Fulltone suggests a retail price of $295 but I'm sure I only paid $200 for mine. So, not cheap but a very nice effect and a very good quality build. I've never had a single problem with a Fulltone pedal, ever. They're built like tanks.

I can appreciate it when people try, but when somebody invents the "magic" pedal that makes you sound like your ultimate guitar hero let me know. Building your tone is about not only your gear, but about how you play and the emotion you put into it. I wish it were as easy as many want it to be, but sorry folks, there is no magic Mayer pedal, or a magic Gilmour pedal, claton, beck, etc...etc. If your on a budget and can't afford a pedalboard full of pedals, you should look into a multi effect as a start. There are plenty of them outthere, I can't give too much advice on multi digital effects, as I have all analog pedals.

Actually, there are. With proper knowhow you can replicate any circuit you want. This guy did a *pretty* good Jimmy Page:

...and that's being played through a FENDER

I guess the $4k Les Paul doesn't hurt, either.
