Yes they keeley and analog man pedals are worth the price imo. They are high quality boutique pedals and are each different, much like a fulltone as well. As far as having pedals modded, it is not madatory by any means. I run 14-18 pedals all the time and only one of mine is modded and i havent even got it back yet. I am having keeley mod a ds-1 for me. Now with that said, the better quality pedals you buy the better they will sound. You want to stay away from cheap end pedals like the fab pedal by danelectro. It is always safe to go with boss, lots of guys liek digi tech, i am not a fan of them personall, how ever i do think the whammy pedal is awesome, and i have one of them. I have several boss pedals, um vox and dunlop are great for wah pedals. Electro Harmonix, vox, fulltone, durham, z.vex, visual sound, morley, maxon are all good pedals, and there are many many more. The best thing you can do is go play as many as you can and try them out. find what fits you, each person has there own sound in mind. the tube screamers IS THE STAPLE OF MY BOARD. I have 2 on there. one is a ts9 and 1 is a ts 10. ach set differently. You could take anything else off my board, but not my tubescreamrs. One thing i highly recommend to any one running more tha t3 or 4 pedals is to invest in VHT Valveulator. It is a tube buffer/line driver. It pushes your pedals signal, and gives you mor of the direct in to the amp sound. Changed my set up totally. Well i hope this helps, i you have any other questions let me know.

While I'm no pedal-meister like FlameKaster, I also have some experience with pedals. My weapons of choice are the DOD pedals from "back in the day" I'm also looking to get a few "boutique" pedals too...in particular the Keeley "Fuzz Head" (What can I say?...I'm a fuzzed up individual!..LoL!) I think when it comes to pedals there's no real "right" recipe...you have to go by your ears, and what YOU think sounds right. I mean honestly, I would never pay $294.70 for a pedal, but I can show you a web-site that's charging prices like these! I'm not cheap, but I have other more important obligations and can't go spending money recklessly, but there is something to be said for a pedal that costs a little more than the "cheap" stuff...(I also agree with FlameKaster, stay AWAY from the Danelectro pedals....!) I've had about 15 years of successful "tone shaping" with the pedals I bought in 1988, they are: DOD FX 56-B American Metal Pedal / FX52 Classic Fuzz / FX20 Stereo Phaser / FX80-B Compressor / FX35 Octave Pedal / DOD Noise Gate...I also have 2 pedals from a company called Righteous Tones..I have their Sonic-Mayhem fuzz pedal and their Electro-Shine pedal, not for nothing but I didn't pay anything over $100.00 for these two pedals and you really wouldn't be able to tell them from the $350.00 pedal that someone els is using....I guess the long & the short of it is: Use Your Ears, if you don't have to spend big bucks to get your sound then don't but if you've tried all the "tried & true" stuff out there and you still can't seem to find your sound them maybe you SHOULD look into a few pedals that are left of center...

Thanks guys,
There's a really cool little guitar store near my house. I just bought a hotrod deluxe this week from them, great guys. They have the Cusack Screamer, wow, I'm picking that baby up next week.

The thing is , my band plays alot of music . I have to be able to go froma blues shuffle to a reggea song to some heavier power chord stuff. I love the sound of the stock fender od for blues and such but I need something a little more for Hendrix or some of the heavier stuff we play.

I'm new to the pedal game. I had a Marshall half stack before and the distortion worked ok, I lived with it. It had enough drive for our heavy tunes but lacked the full rich tone I wanted for bluesy stuff. So I bought the hotrod, which sounds freakin awsome. My pedal board will go like this... vox wha(that I'm sending to keeley for bipass and ac adapter work), Cusack screamer( for SRV, Hendrix , or any classic rock or blues), A Boss heavy metal pedal ( for our heavy stuff) and lastly an octive pedal for fun and for sound changes during our sets.

Hows that sound to you guys? I think I have all bases covered. You can check out my band at www.myspace.com/johnleehomicide

thanks again

Try this set up Cusak Screamer, Wah Boss HM, then the octave pedal.

I am not up to speed on the cusack screamer, i am assuming that it is a tube screamer clone, i use 2 tube screamers on my board, and i put one on ech side of the wah. gives it a cool sound!! I would reccomend you get a fuzz like a fulltone 70 or a analog man peppermint fuzz if you want to do some cool hendrix type stuff also a good compressor like the keeley or the old japenes boss cs2 that will help with your reggae srtuff, and i would reccomend a boss bd2 blues driver for the british strat through a marshall sound.

Big Thanks guys!!!

If you haven't, check out the Cusack sreamer, major overdrive but no muddy loss of individual notes, very clear, abot $150.

I do have a boss blues driver. I may use this for my primary overdrive. Then the screamer as a boost for solos.

Studio dates are set for next month, I really want my guitar sounding great for this cd.

Thanks again!

I like Analog Mike's work. I had a TS-9 of his for years and currently have a Blues Driver in for mod with him and a Comprossor on the way. I had a Keeley Java Boost and couldn't really get into it but to be fair it needs a British style amp to be effective. I think if you like the sound and have the money it's worth it.

I got the feeling when i tried the java pedal since it is a top boost pedal, that it was designed to get a ac30 type feel. do you still have the pedal? do you want to sell it?

Hi Flamekaster!

You are correct on the AC30. It was made for that type of amp or even the old Marshall amps which is where the original Rangemaster (which the JB is based on) was made famous. Most notably, Clapton used one while with John Mayall. Of course he was using humbuckers too, so that makes a bit of a difference. Sorry but I already sold the Java Boost. Analogman makes the Beano Boost which is comparable and significantly lower priced.
