I'm going out to see the Red Hot Chili Peppers tonight. I'm super jazzed to see them, it feels like I've been waiting since they were in town last time, which was about 5 years ago.

I'm also excited to see Josh, the new guitar player. He had some large shoes to fill and aside from fewer solos, I have been really impressed with his songwriting and playing on the new album.

It's quite a drive, so I got a room near the arena that has shuttle service to and from the concert, which means no driving tonight! :P I also took the week off of work, so no regrets if I end up having a little too much fun.

Started the day off with a little jammin to get in the mood:

I'll post up some pics from the show when I get back tomorrow.

I see you are perfectly prepared! Have a nice night! I love them , but was a bit disappointed when I saw them some years ago- because of an insane sound level that made it impossible to distinguish the instruments...... watch your ears

Very very jealous, last time I saw them was at Earls Court 8 years ago when John was still in the band, but they were top notch.

I'd be excited to see Josh too, I think as fans we have to let go of John and appreciate what he did but accept Josh's new direction. I happen to think Josh's playing is fantastic, much lower key than John but adds a more subtle direction, one that appeals to me and that I definitely aim for.

Please do let us know how it went, as a HUGE fan I'd be very very interested.

What a show! :D :D :D

The whole band really delivered a fantastic performance and Josh seemed to bring a new level of energy to the group. It felt like they got a fresh start and he really nailed every song.

They played a good variety from the new album, Stadium Arcadium, By the Way and Californication. Also the expected classics from Mother's Milk and Blood Sugar Sex Magik. The highlight for me had to be Suck My Kiss which rocked so hard it felt like the roof was gonna blow off the arena. Another great momet was Meet Me at the Corner from the new album.

There was some great improv jamming too. I would have liked to hear something off Uplift Mofo Party Plan like Funky Crime or Backwoods but I can't complain. Overall it was one of the best shows I have been too! Here are a few pics:

Thanks for checking out the jam asgeirman! The preperations really payed off, everything went perfectly! The sound was great, but then again, it has been great every time I've seen them. :D

So glad they were still rocking it, Suck My Kiss has so much energy about it for sure. I'd love to see Meet Me At The Corner, I think it might be my favourite off the new album. In fact I've had a few beers and I think I'm gonna put it on before bed and chill.

Glad you had a good time!
I'm a huge RHCP fan, and after reading this thread, I might just get tickets to go see them in Edmonton.
Thanks for the pictures too. Looks like you had amazing seats!

On a side note, Chad Smith just tweeted that Josh fractured his foot during last nights show. :?

I saw them in Athens a few weeks ago! I'm not a huge RHCP fan, but when I found out that they're coming (1st time ever) I just could not miss them - and I'm glad I didn't because they ROCKED!

I'm so jazzed, trying to play a few songs of them on my guitar!!

Cool pics and videos! Glad you enjoyed it, they put out some great studio albums but live is always where they have shined. Their on stage jams used to rock. John and Flea used to have a great understanding together.

Josh is a great guitarist, slightly different to John and with time I think him and Flea can really get something going.

Still in my top 5 bands of all time easily.

Disclaimer this is my opinion blah blah etc

Josh had a broken leg in Athens and he was sitting on a chair for the concert.. but despite all that he headbanged like no other!!! He was really good actually! His guitar didn't sound well for the first couple of songs, but again I was on Flea's side so you understand... he sounded a lot better as the concert went on (strictly an audio/stadium issue, not that he didn't play well)

Flea was AWESOME!!

Killer pics Wild_Rose! Looks like an amazing place to see the Peppers. Was Josh sitting all night? Someone mentioned he fractured his foot at the Oakland show I went to, so I wonder if it's from that.

RHCP announced that they are playing a special New Years eve show in Las Vegas, I bet that will be awesome! Wish I could be there. 8)

They were excellent at the show I attended, at least 5 of them and the outro jam was the best and longest. Josh really impressed me live.
