Dear friend, I am extremely sorry to hear about your situation. I cannot tell you that I know what you are going through, but I do know there are others on this forum who have looked death in the eye and still come out on top.

I suppose that all I can say is, while there is still life, there is hope.

You must absolutely do everything you can to pull your self out of your depression. You will need resolve and a positive attitude if you are to survive.

I urge you to talk to someone, a family member, a friend, a co-worker, a priest, a crisis counselor -- and ask for help. It is amazing how much simply discussing a problem -- even one as big as this -- can help pull you from the depths.

I will be sure to pray for you and your recovery. I wish you the best of luck as you tackle what I am sure will be the battle of your life.

Godspeed,
Steve

That is terrible news, but why not let the Music take your mind off the terrible news instead? Rather be happy with the memories than be sad with none.

I understand where you're coming from in regards to giving up music. When my mom passed away in 2005, I took a year off playing. It just made me too sad to play. Then I started playing again, it was inevitable. I decided I was not honoring my mom who drove me to all those guitar lessons by choosing not to play. She wouldn't have wanted me to stop.

There are good things in life other than music. Have you ever tried painting? Just follow your heart Jake, it won't steer you wrong. I hope your situation takes a turn for the better real soon.

Music just reminds me of all the happiness I had in life. Happiness is now gone.
The saying "You don't know what you got until it's gone." So true.
I'm too upset to finish this....
This is my final post. I'll miss it.
Sincerely Jake.

Yes...You can do it....Other's on this Forum have serious medical issues and have not only not given up, but use music to celebrate life, I don't know if he is a member here but Jason Becker would be / should be an inspirational model as to a musician who has completely lost all mechanical functions yet still is able to create music because of his mind...

You Jake on the other hand still have use of your hands and fingers...
I'm interested, what did you get for a Martin Acoustic :?: Don't leave it in its case, play it, learn to fingerpick, learn celtic, open tunings, listen to music by Doyle Dykes, Pierre Bensusan, Al Petteway, Leo Kotke.
Stefan Grossman has a series of guitar workshop books from alternate tunings to Folk, Blues, Jazz a catalog that will take you a long time to master.

If One of your friends is an excellent fingerpicker, let him or her play your guitar, there is nothing like letting another musician play your instruments and you'll be pleasantly surprised at the new fresh ideas that you can develop from that experience...

Best wishes and go outside, look around, everyday is a fresh new day not to be wasted...

Jake, I'm sorry to hear of your terrible news. I really hope
you can overcome your depression, your in a dark place and you
can't see the light. Find someone you can talk to.
Find a group that is going through the same. I know what it's
like to see people around you as happy as can be, while your
stuck in the slums. That group that is going through the
same thing will pull you through, find the forum.
Life is too precious even if your sick, it's all perspective.
Pull yourself out of bed, find someone to talk to, don't hesitate.

As someone who has looked Death in the eye I can tell you that picking up the guitar was the best thing that ever happened. Took me out of some very deep funk. And I do mean VERY DEEP.

Don't give up! If you don't feel you can cope alone, there are many types of Support Groups out there. Find one or have your Dr. help you find one.

That Martin wants to be played.

All the best.

So sorry to hear about your bad news brother. It's terrible that you aren't able to play right now, but hopefully that will change and you will get to know your new guitar soon. Sending some mojo your way, stay strong.

Can I have a recording of you in the zone playing so I can collab with it later? Just everything you can muster if you can.

Cheer up , young man :!: Don't you quit on everything that could bring you any joy . I can only imagine what you are going through , and that's a terrible thought :( Guess you should do as many great things as possible . Wonders can happen- and if you treat yourself good , that might help. Wish you all the best - hoping for full recovery 8)

Jake - hang in there, brother, don't stop fighting the good fight. I'm wishing you all the best for a full recovery. And I definitely agree that guitar playing makes for good therapy, so I hope you will summon the will to play again.

Here's hoping for a miracle.

Here's hoping for finding some way or some thing that brings a little joy.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Jake, I'm so sorry to hear these terrible news. Whatever the outcome, don't let depression take the best of your days with friends and family. If you still read your messages, I sincerely wish you the best for a full and speedy recovery.
Claude.
