Hello Elix1r.

How come? Have you swapped the neck out?

If so, then we don't know whether the bottom of the nut slot is flat or curved. You'll have to check. And obviously you also need to match a pre-slotted nut to the radius of the fingerboard.

Does that even matter, nut wise?

Yes.

So. If you have a 9.5" fingerboard and your nut slot has a curved bottom you will need item #6002-VS, if it is flat you'll want #6003-VS, from the page you linked to:

Not a TUSQ.

No? Any special reason?

Mind you. If you are having your neck refretted you'd probably do best to just ask the luthier who's doing the work to make and fit a new nut for you. Then you can have exactly the material, shaping and string spread of your choice, rather than having to buy off-the-shelf.

Cheers - C

I will +2 Ceri's advice, In my case of replacing nuts... I seem to meet at least a couple every week, keeps life interesting...

On the serious side, more often than not the string spacing is not exactly where I want it, it may be just half a mm. off but it is impossible to recut a pre slotted nut.
Also if your tech is going to refret, definitely have him install a new nut, just get a blank, unslotted and without a concave radius. ( Half the price )
The radius is simple to match if need be with those understring radius gauge sets.

Out of curiosity, Why a refret... :?: Are the frets that worn... :?: is this just a partial refret or are the frets just the wrong size for you... :?: ( This doesn't seem to be a very old model but I'm guessing here as to the current condition..)
Being that it is quite expensive to do and requires a skillful experienced hand, especially on Rosewood which is much more prone to splintering when pulling frets out versus Maple..
Hence why this is an expensive process and not just a simple adjustment.

It could be less expensive to find a second hand neck with the fret size you want and just drop it in....

These are just suggestions and I'm not infering that your tech is clueless or unskilled, but just a couple points to keep in mind before major surgery...Always get a second diagnosis..

OP could you post a couple photo's of the neck...nut and fret area where worn.
Perhaps just redressing the frets would suffice... 8)

I cannot tell the difference between Tusq or bone on an electric.
On an acoustic like my old Larrivee 10 that is another story, since it is a mechanical system instead of an electromagnetic system..
