bought this guitar around ten years ago at a shop in cookeville , tn called "krazy kent's economy electronics" with the story that another guitar shop in cookeville,on the verge of closing it's doors, built a few guitars out of the spare parts they had laying around , and sold them to pay the last months rent.... so anyway, i took it completely apart hoping to find out what exactly i had, and never found a single serial number or name or anything.... the body and neck i eventually decided were mighty mite or some other replacement stuff, the pickups were mighty mite...... i'm rambling... anyway- this bridge is a mystery and has been for ten years. i've walked it into numerous guitar shops around here , no one has ever had a good answer for me. a friend of mine suggested it was kahler, but i couldn't find anything that exactly matched there either... they were close, but no cigar.... any help is appreciated.. thanks.

Looks to be a MIJ "System I" trem bridge.

this has no trem system- just fine tuners. all the holes that look like trem arm holes are just where the mounting bolts are.

It's a Kahler trem. A 2310 possibly.

A lot of people, myself included, prefer them to Floyd style systems. They have way more scope for setup preference. They operate a lot more smoothly. They operate on a rolling cam/spring set up that is contained in the bridge. So no need for a huge area to be routed out of the guitar body. Which made them popular with Les Paul players in the early 80's.

okay, i take back my statement about there being no trem system... just took it off for the first time in ten years.... i'd forgotten about there being any routing at all, and had been telling people there was none.... not sure what any of the stuff on the underside is supposed to do, but it's obviously a trem system with some things missing. also found on the very bottom it says "korea" but that's the only thing on it anywhere.

all mysteries aside, i love this thing and would rather have it over any other bridge i've had over the years, except maybe the wonderful simplicity of that jaguar bridge on the HH....

I'm still confused. lameandcliche's bridge does look like a Kahler - but not like any Kahler I can actually find. Here's his bridge:

And here's the 2310:

Similar - but definitely not the same. And after hunting Kahler's website I can't find any others that match either. If it's a discontinued model - I can't find which one. And Kahler do have a way of writing their name clearly on their gear, which is missing from this unit.

And it's not a System One, it's not a Schaller, I don't think it's an Ibanez... I did some internet searching - and then I realised my life is running out too fast for this.

Those "ears" either side of the vibrato where presumably the arm pops in are a feature to look out for. Don't remember seeing an ambidextrous model quite like that...

Cheers - C

That is the same bridge that was on my J.B. Player Strat copy which I bought back in 91 ?
Huge swimming pool route to allow clearance since the entire mechanism is below the saddles.
I had locked mine by drilling thru and installing a screw and nut.
The fine tuners always drove me nuts as they were in the way and I would inadvertently loosen the thumb screws just from playing...
It is a cheap Korean trem bridge, there is/was no way to adjust the tension since it is only one spring and the entire assembly is cast, thus no trem claw to adjust or the option to remove or install additional springs....
This guitar ended up becoming a Frankenstrat as it was my guineapig test bed...

Image

I still have the body as I currently use it as a template for rough outlines, it will eventually get a block scarfed in and set up for a hard tail..
The trem tail piece I threw away in the trash long ago...
I actually ran into an article on this system in ( hold for a moment )

Image

Found the article, it is in the May 2010 issue of Vintage Guitar Magazine..In the Shop of Hardknocks section, the article is " Resurrecting a SuperStrat ". I was not able to copy and paste the article, if any one can then post it...

Magnatone, that's awesome to finally see a second one of these . wish you hadn't thrown it out, i would've paid you to send it to me!
I love this thing, even if it is a big hunk of junk. so, it's supposed to be routed all the way through the body to be functional? your 'filled in" pic looks like mine always has.... just that route, nothing further. and the fine tuners have never been a problem for me, i just tighten them down all the way when i put new strings on. looking up that article now... thanks for the info!
Ceri- thanks for looking! i've been looking at all the same stuff, too. i even sent Kahler an email with those pics asking if they had any idea.. no reply yet.
