hi , i haven't used the mace for a good few months and decided to plug the epi lpc into it last night , switched it on and it went POP about 4 or 5 times and then no sound  , everything is powering up , the light at the front is on , the valves are glowing , hopefully it's nothing serious , but it'll have to wait to get fixed as i'm not working at the moment , any ideas of what might be wrong with the old beast ? cheers
Alan

Are you still getting any sound from the speaker? Hiss or any kind of noise? If so rule out the output transformer.

Pops, I look to the small circuit components before the big stuff. Big stuff (transformers, mains smoothing capacitors) tend to go bang rather than pop.
Repeated pops sounds to me like a component slowly failing rather than just giving up the ghost.
Motorboating (put...put...put...put sound) is a sign of a output transformer going bad. Though other things can cause that too.
Just because a valve is glowing doesn't mean it's working properly. It's a good sign, but not a guarantee.

I think motorboating is a sign of her "output" being good
