So whether or not you like him or not, check out what Beck is planning....

http://www.beck.com/index.php/beck-mcsw ... ember-2012

Basically his new album is just sheet music for the songs he's written, he hasn't recorded any and no one will hear how the song should sound in his eyes. Instead you either need to be able to play sheet music or know someone who can to play the songs yourself.

I mean I'm not sure it has much commercial value but I kind of like the idea he's going for here.

I've always liked Beck. He's very creative and out there and he's very noisy and annoying too, but in a good way. Its kind of a neat idea, but in this modern age of digital downloads, I don't see how this will do very well.

I do not read sheet music so it does nothing for me.

This seems rather bizarre. I thought the point of being in a band was to actually play music. Maybe he's just gotten really, really lazy. And he's limiting his audience to musicians only.

I think he's decided he's only going to make his music accessable to real musicians and to hell with the slovenly illiterate heathen masses. If so it fits with his eclectic persona perfectly. Quirkiness runs in the genes when you're a genius. (pun intended)

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Kind of a cool idea, they will have renditions of the songs on the McSweeney’s website so even the musically illiterate can check them out.

Well, I read and from what I've read of it, it is nothing "noteworthy", get it?

For sure, he's no Bach or Beethoven by any stretch of the imagination. Notwithstanding, maybe it will entice a scant few of his faithful to attempt to learn how to read. Realistically though, there will always be someone who will have it tabbed out and readily available all over the web in 'cut time' (get it again?) Further, considering the source, I doubt there will be any 'great number' (once again, get it?) who will bother 'scoring' (oh, I crack myself up ) the sheet music, let alone giving any diligence to it.

See what happens when you're really, really tired?

As always, the above is merely IMO where YMMV.

I think it's kind of a cool idea, from a non-commercial musician's perspective. It really limits the audience though.
