I still buy records and play them on a Marantz turntable :D Still have dozens of records from the 60's and 70's LP's and 45's.

I've thought about selling some of the more valuable LPs, but I think it's too much work and too subjective to determine the condition for selling on eBay.

I fully agree with the problems of evaluation - I decided to simply keep the ones I liked (and some I thought were irreplaceable) and gave the rest to a friend who had a music store and was selling used lp's as a sideline.
My brother bought a usb turntable a year ago and has been converting his vinyl collection to digital format, but told me that it is way more time consuming than he originally thought, if you save the tracks individually and label them. What's your experience?

Alex
Transferring LPs to vinyl is very time consuming, no question. To do it right, you have to record them in real time, meaning you listen to each and every song on both sides of each album as you record them. Then there's the extra time spent to cue each side of the recording as I generally let the first song run a while to make sure that recording levels and noise reduction are at best levels. I think you have to figure at least an hour per LP if you're moving right along. Oh, and that doesn't count the time it takes to tweak each recording to exactly what you want, do your final Wave conversion and name all the tracks, etc.

That may not seem like a lot, but in an average 8-hour day you might get six or seven good transfers. It definitely gets old after a while. Guess that's why it's been a year since I last went through the process... I think I did about 14 full LPs in that multi-day session.

Well, I lost most of mine years ago, but when I started college in 93', I found an old record shop near college and began a new collection. After I left college, the records got stored in a trunk and I junked the old stereo. When Hurricane Katrina hit, I was working with the cleanup operation and while walking through the woods I stumbled onto a place where local businesses were illegally dumping their inventory.....one happened to be a record shop. Needless to say, I had to junk the sleeves, but ended up with a couple of hundred records from every genre you can think of. Hated to see the rest in a garbage truck. If I could have, I would have saved all of them. My wife bought an old 50's "stereo" that I play them on. Love vinal. Love em!

i still have some of mine. I've got a few Venture's. One of the albums was signed when they were in town. Some Ronstadt picture discs. A few of various artists. Also, have the Lynyrd Skynyrd album with the group standing in front of flames. Album cover was later modified, blacked out the flames, out of respect to the members who died in the plane crash in 1977. Still have my pioneer turntable. Needle is missing. Actually still have most of my pioneer equipment from the 70's. Speakers just fell apart. I kind of miss sitting there listening to the album while reading the liner notes.

I've saved a milk crate full of lp's...the best of my collection and sadly, it has sat in the storage area of my basement for about 20 years now. Last fall I found them and my old turntable and pulled them out with the idea of playing them and digitizing them as well; however the rubber belt on my turntable had become brittle and broken, so no joy as yet.
My eldest son was looking at the albums though, and really liked a number of the dust jackets....he wants to frame them and put them on the walls of his room 8) He said that I could keep the records....what to do :? ??!!

i found a belt for my technics turntable online. my 15 yr old son and i are enjoying all of my classic lp's now. i punched in the model number, ordered the belt for about $15 including shipping and had it up and running in 3 days... i'll get back to you with the site.

I was a total Ventures freak. When the Ventures came to northern Minnesota in 1982 to promote their movie - 25 Years Of The Ventures (which for various reasons was never released) they played at Becker's Supper Club in Fergus Falls. No one in that town knew who the Ventures were, so I had a front row seat about 6' from Nokie Edwards while these guys played two sets!

After their performance I went out and knocked on the door of the tour bus and they let me in with a PILE of Ventures albums, about 18 and one reel-to-reel tape, Twist With The Ventures. Those guys sat and talked with me for an hour while they all signed every single one of those album covers. I sold a few of the oldest on eBay ten years ago, but I still have most of them. Great memories!

I had over four hundred albums as a teenager and my inexplainable goal was to have 500. When I joined the military, my mother threw them away. Every last one of them. To Include limited edition and one of a kind stuff.

I have a couple thousand on shelves that I won't give up without a fight.
A bunch in boxes waiting for more shelf space to be displayed.

Some iconic covers displayed on the wall and a few autographed.

...Those were the days man!
Not long ago I attended this vinyl week-end event. I was surprised to find the place thriving.
Young, beautiful girls scouting-out the jazz Lps!
There is something so mysteriously appealing about the format...
One of my favorite old covers, Stormwatch by J. Tull.
Have a great week you all!

It would really behoove people to hold on to their old vinyl as a lot of it will never be released in CD or even MP-3 format.A couple of Christmases ago my darling daughters gave me a cool bit of gear that records vinyl, tapes and even other CDs in real time without having to go through the hassle of putting files on your computer etc.,you just put the blank CD in the "record"CD slot and put your album on the turntable and just press the "Pause" and "Record" buttons. It records everything in real time so you have to pause the play and flip over the album once one side is recorded. The beauty of it is that you can fit 3 albums on one CD.

I have 350-400 LPs in storage in Connecticut some 1100 miles away from where I live now. I'll get them back . . . someday.
