Senerio-
Strat into a Boss Powered pedal board with 6 pedals, to my combo Marshall amp.
Third song into the set and I lose all sound output. Lights are still on the amp and individual pedals, but no sound. I check for a pulled out speaker cables-all ok. The cord to the guitar is in as well as the chords to the pedal board, both the input and output cords. I pull out the cord from the output jack on the pedal board and plug it right back in and everything works again. Are the connections dirty? Can they be cleaned? The cables are old, maybe a couple of years old, and they are the good Monster cables with the gold ends. What can I do to prevent this scare again?

I hate when that happens, but that's just the way it
rolls out on the open road...keep plenty of spares with you
in the future...dirt can cause problems.

Not the solution to your question, but perhaps a suggestion for a future investment: If you had a board which utilizes a pedal switcher, having one pedal assigned to each loop, you could troubleshoot each pedal and when one doesn't work, you know it comes down to one of the two cables in that loop, and can change them accordingly.
Or to simplify things, you could choose not to use that pedal for the rest of the set, knowing that it will be kept safely out of the signal. The other 5 pedals would be fine.

Furthermore, this will allow you to have control over the buffer/true bypass dilema. Having all 6 pedal off on the switcher enables true bypass. Compare that to having one loop enabled with the Boss pedal turned off. The signal runs through the Boss pedal's buffer and you can see whether that improves your clean signal or not.

+1 on the loop switch. Anytime you can isolate things, it's easier to troubleshoot.
