I went to high school with a guy named Shaun Verreault. He would play at pep rallys and when I saw him, I wanted to play guitar. Then I met my buddy Jaie, who played. He taught me a few things and I was off and runnin'!

Shaun ended up starting a band called Wide Mouth Mason. If you're Canadian, you may have heard of them!

My Uncle was showing me chords on his Martin when I was six. I never could talk him into slappin' his Kay upright though.

My friend Carlos lived in a very musical house. I visited that guitar shop every chance I had.

My friend Donnie talked me into trading my Explorer for an Aria/Mosrite bass. My mother bought me that Explorer when we were dirt poor.

I later jammed just about every day with some high school buds.

Such a lame story however a guy I had a crush on in Highschool played Smoke on the Water and I thought it was the coolest thing ever..parents would only okay an acoustic guitar..and for some reason I thought I was cool as heck playing it on an acoustic..in hindsight its kind of embarassing..lol

Clapton during his Cream days. I still remember hearing those famous opening notes of "Sunshine Of Your Love", and figuring them out on my older sister's nylon string guitar. Clapton introduced me to blues rock, and then I discovered Hendrix afterwards. When I was old enough to start school band (trumpet), I got inspired by Chicago. Their coolest tune, even to this day, is "25 or 6 to 4" complete with a wah-wah guitar solo and a wicked brass section.

I had always been a big music fan, but it was Jimmy Page's playing on Zeppelin I and II that inspired me to actually go and buy my first guitar.

the first thing i can remember would be seeing mtv's coverage of woodstock 94, seeing green day playing live, getting into a mud war with the "mud people" in the crowd, and how much fun it looked like...
that made me kind of want to be a rockstar.... but then a few years later i saw nirvana's video for "in bloom"... the sub pop video. and that was it, i had to have a guitar.
yeah, i'm a young guy.

Honestly, Kurt Cobain. The emotion he transmitted through a few chords and a mumbling melody and how I could relate to that just made me become me. Motivated by him, I then thought it would be a good idea to start playing guitar and writting my own songs to express myself. Even though I haven't intentionally listened to his music for a couple of months, an I hardly consider him an influence now, whenever I go to a guitar or I'm testing new gear, I almost always warm up with one of his songs.

The milk man. He also owned a music store in the small town I grew up in but I didn't know that until a few years later. He gave me my first dog (a mongrel puppie) when I was about 9 or 10 or so. Our family loved him. We didn't really know him very well outside of him being our milkman but he was a very sweet and likeable man and all the kids loved him wherever he went. When I was 11 my family went to a wedding and at the reception I saw my first live band. I was awestruck to see people actually making music right in front of me and the milk man was the lead singer and rhythm guitar player. We left pretty early as my sisters were well past their bed-time but I started hounding my parents for a guitar in the car on the way home. A few weeks later my mum bought me a Framus arch-top and the rest is history. I also bought my first electric guitar from his store when I was 13, a red Kent Strat copy, with the earnings I made after two months of working at my first job, pumping gas at my dad's service station for 50¢ an hour.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.
