I had the same trouble with Burroughs' "Naked Lunch" and "Vision of Cody" by Jack Kerouac, in that I didn't have the slightest idea of what either was talking about. I'm sure someone a little smarter than me would though.

Unfortunately I cannot read. No, I am not illiterate, I just cannot read! The last book I read completely was Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt Vonnegut Jr. That was around 2001. It took me about 3 months to get through it. Not because it was boring, but I have little attention span for books (except the ones with pictures!! LOL!) I have tried to read books on subjects that interest me. I am a Star Wars geek, so what better to kick start my reading than a Star Wars book! Nope! Couldn't get through that either! I read and then my mind wanders, still looking at the words. A couple of pages later I don't even know what I have just read, so I re-read and the same thing happens. Forget it. I'll wait for the movie.

I've been reading "Rip It Up and Start Again," by Simon Reynolds.

It's an exhaustive examination of postpunk music in Britain and the US from 1978-1984. A must read for any fan of late 70s-early 80s music.

I'm familliar with less than half the bands discussed in the book, but it's nonetheless a very entertaining read.

The Beatles: The Days of Their Lives

Standing in the Shadows of Motown

The Beatles Recording Sessions...This book is the most interesting thing I've read. Every day, every hour of the Beatles sessions were documented. There's a story behind every move in that Abby Road studio.

I used to read Bass Player Magazine until they started chargin' like 10 dollars per copy. Same with Guitar World.
