They usually come stock with 10's, and that's what I used to use. I recently fattened things up to 11's on my tele and now my strat too. The tone is fatter, my guitars stay in tune better, and they sound much cleaner. Never been a fan of 9's... way too light for me. I grew up playing acoustic so I guess my fingers are accustomed to the heavier gauge... and medium picks... hate the thin ones... you try to pluck a note and 20 minutes later the pick leaves the string... what's up with that???

I checked 10's, but I actually use a hybrid set of strings which is 10's on the low strings, and 9's on the hight strings.

I use 10's on all my guitars, except for the tele which get's 11-52's. I switched to 9's on my strat for a while but have gone back to 10's again. I just like the feel of them.

Yeah, I've noticed that lately with my 9s I'm accidentally getting a "squealing" Van Halen-circa-1983 tone, and we all know that nobody in their right mind would ever want to achieve such a terrible, ridiculous, irritating sound.

I find no difference in tone...just lose the ability to bend like Guitslinger!

+1
Just a matter of the amp and guitar setup (IMO)

There's a definite difference when playing slide though!

The heavier the string on a Stratocaster..the better the sound.

I use 10s. Less susceptible to breakage but still not too thick as to be unwieldly.

Got a set of 9's and hated them with a vengence!!
I want violin tone and really easy bending , so am going back to my personal favourites
8-10- 15-26-38- 52
Try them
(no loss of tone )

I use 9's (and 10's) because several of my SRV clone friends are having hand problems after years of pushing around heavy strings. One of them still won't give them up!

I have one strat with 9's one with 10's and another with 13's for slide. Then I have a tele strung with 9's and another with 10's. Depending on how my joints are feeling is how I decide which to use. For many years I used heavier strings but now I find bending and vibrato are a lot harder to sustain over the course of an evening thus thank god for lighter gauge strings ...and the Rev B. Gibbons who shaves it down to 8's and does so very well

10s on most Strats, but I like 9s on the Custom Classic.

last i checked, stevie used 12's.
your fingers will get used to it. put the electric down for awhile and play acoustic... see what kind of sound you can coax out of wood and metal, then take what you learn and try it on something with wires 8)

I use 9's at the moment. Although within the next couple of weeks I plan to start using Ernie Ball Beefy Slinky. http://www.ernieball.com/products/elect ... ckel-wound
