An early-in-my-playing-life jamming partner was a Skynard fanatic; he could play most anything they ever recorded, pretty much spot-on.

His rig? A 1976 Gibson Firebird with some cheap aftermarket humbuckers (he claimed to hate the original chromed mini-humbuckers) through a mid-sized solid state Kustom amp...and he sounded just like the band, dead on--even copping the licks and tones of the various triads the band had throughout their history. He'd switch from Rossington to Collins to King to Gaines to whomever, just by changing his technique.

It ain't the rig, fellas, it's whoever is drivin' it that makes it sound that way...the tone is in the hands.
