I've fallen into some money here lately. Right now I'm reguarly gigging (3 to 4 times a month) with a top 40 country band, and using a Fender Robert Cray MIM Strat and a Marshall 2X12 MFG 250 solid state amp, and a few pedals (compressor, delay, Blues Driver). and I'm looking to trake a plunge into a high end amp. I really want something in a 1X12 100 watt tube amp, but I'm open to any other suggestions. Trying to keep the size and weight down of the amp cause we mic everything anyway. I've looked at a Mesa Lonestar Special, a Fender Blues Deluxe, and a Regular Fender Deluxe reissue. Ideas anyone?

Mark V Combo
Other suggestion:
Fender Vibro-King It's not small but there is also no substitute available anywhere for it's tone.

If you are willing to spend the money on a Lonestar Special (which I do not advise, BTW. Those amps are problematic) which would imply you are not stuck on the idea of a big-power amp then I reccomend you try to find an early CBS Silver Face Deluxe Reverb, like say a '68 or a '69 or if 22 watts isn't enough then maybe a Vibrolux Reverb at 40 watts and VERY spanky.

The Blues Deluxe is very nice. The Hot Rod Deluxe is the one I own and I am VERY happy with it....I found it a little more versatile than the Blues Deluxe...if you have the extra dollars, go ahead and get the Deluxe Reissue...If I had more cash at the time to spend on an amp I would have gone forward with it. Don't sweat the slightly lower wattage...it's PLENTY loud for just about anywhere you'll find yourself playing and I gotta say that I couldn't make the Deluxe sound bad while I was playing in the store. I had to spend a few minutes with the Blues Deluxe and the HRDLX III to really find the sweet spots on em. NOT TRUE with the Deluxe RI..it'll sound sweet no matter what you do.

Then what the hell do you need a 100-watt combo for?

Get yourself a DRRI and be done with it.

100 wats is allot for a 112 tube combo  i dont think i have even seen one.

30 to 35 watts should be more than enough for a 112.

and if you have the money Matchless makes a phenominal amp.

and my father has this Carr amp, it has jaw dropping tone.........

X3 on the DRRI :!: More than enough amp! But if you feel you need more, then find a good non master volume Silver Face Super Reverb...fantastic tone and can cut through a band mix just a bit better.

I have to agree with other members.100 watts is overkill.

If you are gigging with a mg 250 that is not miked then 22 watts of tube maybe the magic number. You can always mic if you need more volume. If you need more, then a Deville maybe worth considering.Rember 60 Watts or 100 watters can be back breakers.

If you are using a PA then you may want to have two smaller amps and Mic them.redundancy should always be part of your gig planning.

With a lot of the new amps today you can add larger cabinets to move more air so you may want to rent a few amps that you are interested in and try them with your band practices to see how the amp sounds and get a sense of the power, headroom, and volume.

masterhacker, the 100 watt 1/12" and keeping the weight down got even harder when considering price. Any of the 1965 Fender combo amps would work fine even a Tremolux, all too expensive, from the custom shop. I did find this although it is only 40 watts it might just work Image

Budda Superdrive 80 definitely a big venue amp. Its a lot of amp, I am surprised you would want something with so much power in this day and age with the modern venue Pa systems. Modern micing and Pa systems have changed since the 60's I seldom use anything in the 100 watt range..

For Country, in a Fender, I'd go DRRI or if for some crazy reason you really want 100 watts a BR or SF Twin. Not the reissues. I agree with most folks here. I lugged a 76 SF Twin around for over 30 years. It was serious overkill except for all the largest venues. 100 watts makes no sense to me. If your pockets are really, really deep. Dumble.

I you want a real Fender recreation, Victoria. They sound more like a Fender than anything is reissuing. They're guaranteed for life too.
