I have just finished another partscaster. The pickup set is a unit off a "Blacktop" and thus has those big black amp knobs on solid shafts. OK for some but not for me. I need to find some small chrome knobs for solid shafts anyone know where to find some.

Thanks

OL

Hi Oneal: not all potentiometers are created equal and sometimes it can be a pain in the behind trying to find knobs that match. There can come a point where it's easier to simply swap in some standard sized CTS pots and take it from there. But in case it helps...:

Your solid pot shafts may be 1/4" / 6.35mm ones. You definitely need to measure to be sure. You say you want chrome knobs? Meaning Tele style? In that case you probably want to look at the 1/4" ones on this page:

http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Knobs/Dome_ ... _Knob.html

Or if you want other shapes this page may help:

http://www.wdmusic.com/knobs_custom.html

Some of those will fit your shaft, but annoyingly they don't always quote the shaft size for the individual knobs so you may have to email them to check.

Q-Parts have some offerings that may or may not interest you. Again, you need to take care and perhaps check with them about shaft size:

Good luck - C

Ceri,

The pots are whatever size Fender uses for the HH Blacktops. I have not measured them but its a good start any way. I would rather Strat shaped bells and found some on ALLPARTS. will measure the shafts tonight and go from there. I thought about changing out to split shafts but a bit lazy with the soldering iron these days.

The Guitar is a MIM Lake Placid Body and Maple MIA neck. A set of Chrome covered HH off of a Blacktop. A Warmoth Black pearl pickguard. I have no pictures of it yet but maybe tomorrow.

Thanks

Ah, well if it's chrome Strat type knobs you're after I know of none better than these solid brass ones, with brass or chrome finish:

http://www.wammiworld.com/p8003.php

I can't see from that tiny photo, but WammiWorld's knobs always used to have a beautiful knurled surface on the vertical side section, like on a Tele knob but finer. And they're solid metal, not the cheapo metallicised plastic ones you get elsewhere.

Problem is, these definitely take a 3/8" / 6mm shaft, which may or may not fit your pots. So measuring is essential to be sure.

Assuming they still have that knurled grip these ones would be well worth the cost of some new pots, IMNSHO. 8)

Cheers - C

Ceri,

I was browsing my local Radio shack and came up with a $4.00 solution.

I measured the shafts and they are 1/4". Radio Sshack had some neat little black knobs 4 for $4.00 they had no chrome ones in this size or shape. But these littel black ones look neat to me. I'm happy with them :)

I just need to go back and solder the grounds and jack and I'm finished.
