I still pay for all my music. It's only on really rare occasions that I don't, and that's usually when the band is giving it away for free.

ok, so now we make this simple. do you prefer to watch music performed live in gig/concerts or do you prefer to listen recorded music?

Both. Equally.

However, I find there's quite a lot of music I enjoy live but turn out not to bother with in recorded form. Many times I've loved a gig and so bought a CD, only to find I never want to listen to it afterwards. That can apply across genres, from rock to jazz to classical. Sometimes it's all about being there.

Like Greek wine.

Cheers - C

I pay for all my music.

There is always much greater excitment at a live event rather than listening to recorded music....but recorded music is obviously much more accessible.

Last CD - Joe Walsh - Ananlog Man

Last concert - Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers

Last few albums I purchased were one new purchase for me, and a couple of iTunes purchases of things I used to have on hardcopy but had gotten misplaced or destroyed over the years...

Grace Potter and the Nocturnals- Self-Titled
Robbie Robertson and the Red Road Ensemble- Music for "The Native Americans"
Bill Black's Combo- Studio 102 Essentials

Like all the other old geezers here (sorry, fellas  ) I pay for all my music. There is no music on my iPhone that I did not pay for except for about a half dozen songs friends have recorded of themselves and have given me or track I made myself that I'm fooling with and want to take with me on the road.

List of past 3 months recently purchased music includes (but not limited to):

Destranged (debut album of a Ft. McMurray band)
Warren Haynes
Beatles (Boxed Set)
Blackie & The Rodeo Kings
Buddaheads
Derek Trucks Band
Good for Grapes (debut album, acoustic band)
Kirby Sewell Band
Rob Thomas
Steven Walters
and lots and lots and lots and lots of single songs on iTunes

It's tempting to say that I prefer live music over recorded because I enjoy it so very much but I don't actually because you can't take live music with you.

Unfortunately, the only time I get to see other musicians play now days is when I'm gigging. It's still very enjoyable, but it's also like being at work. So that takes a little of the fun out of it. :?

You MUST be the king of pain if you play flats on a bass. How many inches worth of finger flesh does it steal from you before a new set gets filled up with your dead skin and dried blood?

Renaissance and Early Music.
No kidding.

It´s a Source...
But thank God i have restrained myself several times from purchasing
a fancy Theorbo, which is a kind of Lute, sure to get some beautiful girl´s attention.

I got a killer Strat instead.
Ah, what a wise choice...
16th Century Pavans sound mighty fine on that neck pickup!

Here´s a link to a little something from those days gone by. Notice the effective use of arpeggiation as he goes through the variations!

Flatwounds? They are supersmooth, my friend. I use Fender Flats so they are a bit high tension. I'd be in more danger of bruising then cuts.

The first time I played flatwounds on a bass was also the last time I played flatwounds on a bass. I was bleeding. Maybe they've improved but I'll never find out.

Must have been super light gauge. I run Fender 9050MLs. It's like playing piano wire. I'm pretty sure Fender still makes them like the old fashioned one's for the most part. Different strokes for different folks. As long as you're playing it's all good! :D

Long time ago I had fender Flatwounds on a Jazz, after a few months the tape either loosended or seperated and the edges were sharp. That was th last time I used Fender bass strings. Over the years, I've never had any problems, just that one time.
