I picked up a Squier guitar a little over a year ago. And I decided I wanted to move up to a Fender guitar. Are there any models that anyone would recommend? My guitar playing style would base mostly around Blues Rock,Rock & Roll, Psychedelic Rock, and Folk. I occasionally play Country. In other words, does anyone recommend a well-rounded electric Fender that sounds decent in all styles?

It's hard to go wrong with a Stratocaster.

Welcome to the forum Jeggy, what is your budget? You want something new or used? Old style vintage or modern? All of the above? You can't go wrong with either a MIM or an American Standard Stratocaster.

Thank you Claude. My budget would be around 500-700 (hopefully that's not too low for something new!). Aesthetics of a guitar doesn't really matter to me as long as the guitar sounds nice, but if there were a vintage guitar and fits in my budget I'd got for the vintage as opposed to the modern.

Yah, good luck with that. Hardly seems likely. Without knowing where you live in the world I would suggest a new MIM Strat.

Welcome to the forum Jeggy.

For your style of music and budget, I would think outside the box.

Godin.

Those Godin guitars must really have made an impression on you, Gary. I've seen you plug them several times now. I came really close to buying a Seagull acoustic one time. Great value. Lotsa bang for the buck.

(Seagull is a Godin company, for those who don't know.)

At least try the Godin brand. Make the decision for yourself.

If you have the time, just go by somewhere like a Guitar Center (or an authorized Fender Dealer...which means they have a LOT of Fender Guitars to choose from) during the week (NOT the weekend) and sit down and try out 7 or 8 MIM strats...it's weird because I have done that with my last 2 purchases of Fender guitars and I was amazed at the differences between each guitar I tried. Ultimately I found THAT ONE guitar that came alive in my hands. I say do this during the week because you'll most likely be the only customer in the place and will have plenty of opportunity to sit down and really get to know each guitar you are trying out. The weekends are a nightmare in most of those places. An MIM strat will set you back anywhere from 450 to 550 bucks and the quality varies from unit to unit...that's why I say take your time in finding the one that you REALLY like and you can't go wrong.

Low end of your budget:

Epiphone Sheraton II $509.99

High end of your budget:

Epiphone B.B. King Lucille $699.99

Sorry Fender, I'm a sucker for hollow/semi-hollow guitars and for whatever reason the Telecasters just don't 'do it' for me.

Have fun doctoring the Squire and save for an American Vintage Strat!!!!
...Worth waiting for!
It is useless to run to the store just now, you will probably
be disappointed.

Happy Trails!!!!!!!!

I tried that Sheraton II (in white) and I didn't care for it. Buddy had one for a spell. Maybe with better pickups ....

Never tried the Lucille.
