So we know there has been some tension around lately so let me release it with some surf vibes. This is my first time trying to solo over something so be gentle  I know I have a lot of work ahead and its pretty crappy but you gotta start somewhere right. I also recorded the backing track for it too.

And hey, even if I get ripped apart there are always positives to take 8)

Peace and sunny beaches.

Sweet tune. Simple & well played  If this was recorded the way you talked about the other day, I am impressed

Thanks guys!

And yeah that was just through a line-in into Garageband, I'd love to be able to get a good quality recording out of my amp but I can't afford a set up for it right now and the onboard mic on the laptop obviously sucks  So for the sake of a £2 adaptor it could be worse!

Just one question- 'cause I'm still wondering about this - do you plug your guitar straight into the adaptor - and then into the Mac- or do you take a cable from your amp to it ?

Literally straight from guitar to mac. The input signal is fairly low so to get it that loud I had to crank the volumes on the amps in the program, although apparently you can run Guitar>Volume Pedal>Laptop to boost it.

The program has lots of different amps and pedals which don't do a bad job to be honest, but it obviously isn't a replacement for a nice set up.

Also if you like to monitor what you're playing it plays it back way too delayed to be useful.

Yes - I know GB , but i use Logic. The thing got me wondering was that your signal still is as clear as it is. Thanks again :D

That's called latency, and is probably the biggest demon to overcome in order to get good overdubs. You need to get a Direct In box. Garage Band will let you assign a choice of drivers for the DI. I've had good results with using the ASIO driver, but try them all and try adjusting the settings, you may find a different one works with your setup.
I recorded my first attempt using my Strat direct in and tweaking with the software effects and got a real nice sound. Sometimes simple is better. Good job on your recording!

Of course- I was too into SnowJoe's connection-methods to see this one. Latency is an important factor. I don't have any experience with DI- boxes , but it seems like an ok way to go. I have used a m-audio firewire 410 for 4-5 years , latency very low, just plug in guitar . Or mic -or keyboard. These kind of sound cards has become much cheaper the last years , so check out something like that. The USB-cards have also gotten better over the years

I liked the solo, thumbs up! It was melodic, it had a theme and you changed the theme up a bit to keep it interesting. That's how it's done.
