I was refilling my gas for another Carvin today and I ran across the new Jason Becker signature model and thought " wow that looks sweet, but I don't know much about him"
I had heard of him back when I was learning and researching neoclassical metal. but I never really looked into his story.

this guy had the worst thing happen to him that could ever happen to any guitarist.
He slowly lost the strength to play or even walk and speak :?
I cannot even imagine going through that.......... his story really made me appreciate what little i am able to play....

so next week I'm going to placed an order for a new Becker vibe shred machine  after i make a troubling decision.......carvin has to many options :|

I have decided on everything but the hardware color
Gold or chrome hardware ? of all the options that's what i cannot decide on  My wife says
" Gold is just tacky" ( with a nasaly bitchy voice) but i think it might look cool

anyways, it will look like this with the flamed maple board but an abalone decal
http://www.carvinguitars.com/catalog/guitars/jb200c

but it will be this color, carvins Electric blue metallic mmmmmmmmm

http://forums.carvinmuseum.com/userpix/ ... crop_2.jpg
http://forums.carvinmuseum.com/userpix/ ... rain_1.jpg

I contacted them and even though its not a color they offer in the options ( since it was
discontinued) but they will do it for me for a small fee, i guess they like return customers

what do some of you fellas think i should go with?

oh and if any of you youngins are good with photo shop, help me out put gold hardware on the blue becker for me  MS Paint isn't cutting it

I have never met your wife but she appears to be quite intelligent to me..blue goes with silver or black..not gold..but ultimately your the one who has to like it sooooo..

it made me think " maybe gold?"

but i am not the best at color coordination, my wife looks at me odd all the time for wearing brown shoes with black slacks

I have to admit that example makes me think that perhaps I rushed into judgement..but I still wonder how the sparkly flecks in the blue he was looking at is going to match up with the gold..

very cool looking guitar Derek, sad story, had not heard it before, inspirational that the guitarist kept on working, massive courage, right? I can not imagine Bro.
IMHO it looks like a Stratocaster. Jackson and Charvel make those as well. They must be screamers and the neck through is a nice feature. Pic's please when it gets here :D

I will deffinitely post some pics, but it will be a while  the red carvin DC I have that I posted pics of on here took about 7 weeks to be completed :|
and now I have more funds for more options, so this one will most likely take a bit longer

I think that's what draws me in the most, the strat like body shape just screams comfort to me. but this one will definitely not sound or play like a strat  the necks on these carvin models.... you just cant help but want to play fast 8)

and Its selfish of me, but hope its been kinda slow at carvin lately so that I will get it faster

Nice one

well I decided to just go with chrome. I think part of the reason the gold looks so great on that bass is the big pearl pick guard. it seems to help balance it out, and after looking at some blue Gibson's and Gretsch guitars with gold hardware i am not as tempted

Plus my wife is less likely to complain now

thanks for the opinions, i will update when i get a delivery estimate

It is important to maintain a good relation to wives and family  Good choice - and looking forward to get a report about a new Carvin (mine is 20 years old)
Kind of Carvin to donate some money to the JB-Special Need Trust :)

Yes it is, on both of those

the real deciding factor was how the gold wears off over time, this isn't a guitar i want to look AGED any time soon  the black hardware on my DC is already turning chrome and gold typically wears a bit faster ( newer stuff does anyways)

That has not been a problem to mine - it is rather nice and shiny , still. But the fine-tuning pegs of the floyd is more used. They are black - but the chrome is shining seriously thru

My main fear would be that the "gold"...or technically "polished brass" would be much more susceptible to marring or tarnishing....You can't beat chrome plating on guitar parts! They age MUCH, MUCH better.

I didn't see this thread when I posted asking about Ibanez and Carvin.
Very nice guitar. I'm surprised they didn't do this one with 25.5" scale like the Holdsworth sig guitar.
So the neck is smaller, and you're getting 14" radius and Jumbo SS frets. Damn, you're a desperado. Sounds like a real speed machine. Enjoy!
