Look at this disgusting, beat to hell, stock seat. I think it has served its duty for long enough...

So I retrofitted a vintage bicycle seat! And it's really damn comfy, better than that dried-up-sponge feeling monster.

Yes, I know it has a bolt sticking out on the side. I'm going to work on that eventually. For now, I love it as is.

My next task is to get this rad front fender to fit. It looks kinda like one of those 1950s bike fenders, but it's newer than that. (1984)

I like it! :P

I was building a motorized bicycle and was heading in the same direction.

Tex, I hate to say it, but the fenders off that bike I parted out would look so much better on that one. They just need a good polish, seeing as they're 28 years old. The front one has a fin on it, which is why I really dug it. I couldn't get it to properly fit anyways.

You know, customizing isn't that much money if you know good parts sites and pick trash, like I did today. I spend only $100 on the moped, then $8 to get it running, probably $40 in misc parts that it needed to be roadworthy, and I got the bike for free. A personal favorite parts site is treatland.tv. I'm going to buy a set of rims, and possibly a new exhaust from there before the year's up. I've got my eye on a set of Vespa Ciao rims that are compatible. (Same dimensions as current rims, and the same gear box.) I want a double 5 pointed set, but those rarely pop up. I also want a round headlight, and I want to polish all the chrome. I may have to break out my old buffing wheel before the summer's up, or at least get some Never Dull. ooo, I almost forgot, I plan on doing double baskets and a luggage rack, and I'm getting better turn signals, I bought the ones I have now just to be road legal. Anyways, I can probably get all of the stuff I want done to it on my own for around $500, and if I screw up, my dad is crazy about bikes. He had me disassemble my whole back end over the phone from over 1000 miles away, so I trust him.

Also, the pedals/sprocket and brake grips are pretty nice. I'd love to help with this build, if I could.

Also, the brake handles/grips (whatever they're called :P ) have some pretty weird connections. I was going to try to use them for mine, but they don't have the same connection, so I'm not sure if they're compatible.

But honestly, I think my exhaust is messing up now. It developed a slight air leak today, and it's far lower quality to the one I was looking at. I'm going to tighten the clamp up tomorrow (because it's right at the joint) but I'm not sure that will help very much. The exhaust is literally the worst part of the bike. I was thinking about this model, though I think treatland may have it slightly cheaper. http://www.ebay.com/itm/VESPA-PIAGGIO-K ... 1505wt_905

Depends where the leak is coming from. Use some red Permatex high temp silicone in order to seal where you think the leaks are coming from and double check the clamps.

Do NOT ride with a air leak as it may cause a lean condition seizing your engine!

As far as the converted bicycle goes, I chunked it. I went cheap with a Huffy frame that was going to be way too dangerous to motorized with really poor wheel bearings, brakes etc.

Take note. Check your wheel bearings and especially the bearing in your front forks.

Face-Plant's aint fun.

Yup!

Clean the areas with something like brake cleaner first though so it'll stick.

Let it dry 24 hours.

Oh jeeze! $3? That's awesome! Step one should be removing the exhaust, step two is cleaning, and step three is applying the stuff. Shouldn't take me more than 25 hours
